FPGA Engineer (Must be able to achieve SC Clearance) | Luton | £50 - £65 per hour (OUTSIDE IR35)

Role Overview
As a FPGA Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and verification of FPGA-based solutions using VHDL/Verilog. You will work closely with Systems, Hardware, and Software teams to integrate and deliver robust, high-performance designs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop and verify FPGA designs using VHDL or System Verilog.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex integration issues.
3. Optimize FPGA designs for timing, area, and resource efficiency.
4. Implement high-speed serial protocols and hardware-level solutions.
5. Document technical deliverables and maintain version control processes.
6. Provide progress updates and ensure project milestones are met.
7. Support hardware/system-level integration and debugging.
Essential criteria to secure interview
1. 5+ years of FPGA design experience using VHDL or Verilog.
2. UK Citizenship is mandatory to obtain SC Clearance.
3. Proficiency with tools like Mentor Graphics (HDL Designer, ModelSim/Questa), and synthesis tools such as Xilinx Vivado, ISE, or Quartus.
4. Strong understanding of FPGA design flows, constraints, and Place & Route optimization.
5. Experience with requirements capture, management tools, and independent verification techniques.
6. Hands-on experience debugging FPGA designs and supporting system-level integration.
7. Familiarity with high-speed serial protocols (e.g., PCIe, Ethernet).
8. Proficient in version control systems and scripting (e.g., Linux Shell, Python).
9. Excellent technical decision-making, documentation, and communication skills.
Desirable
1. Experience in safety-critical FPGA development (e.g., RTCA/DO-254).
2. Knowledge of embedded processor cores (e.g., ARM).
3. Familiarity with System Verilog/UVM for verification.
4. Previous experience in the Aerospace or Defence sector.
5. Experience working in an Agile environment.
