Join the CWA as a Senior Materials Technician for the Sizewell C Project I'm excited to share that the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is actively seeking a skilled and dedicated Senior Materials Technician to be a pivotal part of our team for the Sizewell C project. This role is based on-site in Suffolk, with travel to Avonmouth and other locations as required. Sizewell C will be a state-of-the-art 3.2-gigawatt power station, generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, securing a sustainable energy future for at least 60 years. Why This Role Is Key: In this vital position, you will oversee and manage all aspects of construction materials testing, including concrete, earthworks, aggregates, and grout, specifically for our marine and tunnels packages. Your expertise will ensure the development and approval of nuclear-qualified concrete mixes and other essential materials, supporting the safe and efficient delivery of this high-profile project. Key Responsibilities: Establish and maintain safe working methods for the materials team both on-site and in the laboratory. Plan and conduct inspections and testing as per contract requirements, identifying and reporting risks and opportunities. Ensure compliance with UKAS accreditation and maintain high standards of work. Manage the site quality system for the materials testing laboratory, delivering results by deadlines. Maintain equipment calibrations and report any defects. Produce summary compliance reports and manage dispatch of samples to external test laboratories. Train and develop junior staff, ensuring a strong succession plan. Develop testing programmes for trials and ongoing quality testing. Execute trials and ongoing testing as per specifications and scopes. What We’re Looking For: Knowledge of ISO 17025 and UKAS accreditation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to collect, manage, and present data clearly. Previous experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory. Experience in auditing, and training junior staff. Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. Full UK driving licence. Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of construction materials (concrete, grout, earthworks, aggregates, asphalt). SMSTS or SSSTS qualification. Membership in a relevant professional institute. Experience in training, preparing, and reviewing risk assessments and method statements. Proficient skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. A drive for continuous improvement and development.
