You have an exciting opportunity to be a part of a new service delivering healthcare services to a small group of men within the Immigration estate.
The Swinderby Residential Short-Term Holding Facility will hold up to 39 adult men for a period of up to 5 days. As part of a small team, you will offer a holistic package of care to a vulnerable group of men ensuring any immediate healthcare concerns are managed, prescribed medications are continued, and a safe discharge is facilitated. An important part of your role will be to offer emotional support to this group of men at an uncertain time in their lives.
The service provision will be seven days a week, 24 hours a day and you will work in partnership with other providers to achieve high-quality outcomes for the service user group. We aim to provide healthcare to those detained that is equivalent to those in the community.
Main duties of the job
The Primary Healthcare Team will provide a wide variety of care from initial assessment/screening for all new patients, clinical triage, emergency response, care of minor illness and injuries, and health promotion.
Nursing in a secure environment provides the perfect opportunity to offer a positive nurse-led health experience to a group of patients who are usually identified as experiencing poor health outcomes.
Working as part of a small team, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to our patients, who are often not in receipt of essential healthcare services in the community - for a variety of reasons.
Whilst in our care, we are able to empower our patients to become more aware of their health needs, to be screened and receive vaccinations for a variety of conditions.
We are able to offer help and support to stabilise long-term conditions, as well as offer treatment on a daily basis for minor injury and illnesses.
We support and develop our nursing team to lead on areas of speciality which is of interest to them and can offer additional training as required.
We also offer a supportive preceptorship package for newly qualified nurses.
You will work closely with our Home Office and Prison Officer colleagues to provide a high standard of safe and patient-centred healthcare services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Offender Health Care Group is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK. The Care Group provides physical, mental health, and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands, Lincolnshire & Leicestershire.
The Care Group provides healthcare to 7 prisons and one Short Term Holding Facility. You are part of a large peer group of 400+ healthcare professionals with access to peer support, supervision, and excellent opportunities for learning and development. We also offer services within the Personality Disorder Pathway, including Therapeutic Communities (within prisons), Community and Prison Personality Disorder services, and specialist Veteran Services.

The Offender Health Team truly believes it can make a difference to the lives of offenders by offering consistent, high-quality care in primary, mental health, and substance misuse services that are equivalent to health services delivered outside of the Immigration Estate/Prison.
You will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of healthcare for patients.
* For the safe administration of medications in accordance with National, Trust, and Local policies.
* Provide a triage service and clinical interventions, recognising environmental limitations and the need for appropriate referral, assessment, and transfer of patients who require care within wider NHS provision.
* Respond to healthcare emergencies within the prison in accordance with the Trust's and Local policies and procedures.
* Maintain accurate healthcare records and handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
* Deliver evidence-based care and seek specialist advice from other Healthcare professionals both internal and external.
* Act as a named nurse for patients with specialist or complex health needs.
* Provide nurse-led clinics within the Healthcare Centre and the wider Facility, out on the prison wings or other suitable settings.
* To provide basic leadership to junior staff by maintaining professional standards ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.
* To identify patients who could be at risk of self-harm and escalate appropriately and respect patients' individuality and maintain their privacy and dignity within the constraints of the secure and detained environment.
