Senior Transport Planner Job Description

Role Overview
As a Senior Transport Planner, you will be responsible for leading the transport planning activities at your depot and collaborating with other depots across the country to optimise resource utilisation. You will be a key point of contact for our FOB and E-Commerce Operators and will mentor and guide junior staff within the department. Your role will require you to have a strong understanding of container work, proficiency in the Vehicle Booking System (VBS), and a solid knowledge of driver's hours regulations, vehicle maintenance, and the transportation of goods.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
* Meeting KPIs: Ensure the KPIs set by General Management and the Transport Manager are consistently achieved.
* Job Booking & Resource Allocation: Book jobs from Operators and other business areas, optimising resource usage to meet objectives.
* Delivery Schedule Management: Review the delivery schedule periodically and make necessary adjustments.
* Fleet Planning: Ensure fleet assets are planned in compliance with legal requirements and financial targets.
* Budget & KPI Management: Oversee transport planning operations to stay within budget and meet contractual KPIs.
* Team Development: Create a positive working environment, fostering a diverse and balanced team.
* Process Improvement: Assist in improving departmental SOPs and training processes.
* Cross-Department Communication: Maintain clear communication across all departments.
* Issue Resolution: Address complaints and operational issues promptly.
Additional Responsibilities
* Lead and implement the daily transport plan at your depot.
* Contribute to the growth and innovation of the transport division, including new products and services.
* Handle service-related complaints and ensure compliance with KPIs.
Key Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
* Transport Planning Experience: 3+ years of experience in transport planning.
* Container Experience: Experience with container logistics, including importing, exporting, general haulage, or dangerous cargo.
* Communication & Time Management: Strong communication skills and effective time management.
* System Proficiency: Familiarity with TMS systems such as Truckcom, Mandata, or TOPS.
* Problem-Solving: Ability to remain calm under pressure and think creatively to solve challenges.
* Transport Manager's CPC (Preferred): A Transport Manager's CPC is not required but would be a plus.
* Customer Service Skills: Excellent skills in providing customer service.
