About Us: We are a nurturing primary school located in Clapham dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. We are currently seeking a compassionate and skilled Teaching Assistant to work one-to-one with a Year 1 student with high autism needs.
Job Overview: As a Teaching Assistant in our Year 1 class, you will provide specialized support to a student with autism, helping them engage with the curriculum and develop social and academic skills. Your role will be crucial in creating a positive and encouraging learning environment tailored to the student's unique needs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Work one-to-one with a student with high autism needs, providing personalized support and encouragement.
2. Assist the class teacher in implementing tailored lesson plans and strategies to support the student's learning.
3. Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes the student's engagement and participation in classroom activities.
4. Help the student develop social skills and independence through structured activities and play.
5. Monitor and record the student's progress and behavior, providing feedback to the teacher and parents as needed.
6. Collaborate with external professionals (e.g., speech therapists, educational psychologists) to support the student's development.
7. Assist with classroom management and promote positive behavior among all students.
8. Participate in relevant training and professional development to enhance your skills in supporting students with autism.
Qualifications:
1. Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special educational needs.
2. Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders and strategies for support.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
4. A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to working with young learners.
5. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
6. Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
