Eden Scott is delighted to be partnering with Macphie Ltd, to recruit an experienced professional for the position of Operations Manager on a 3-6 month contract.
The main focus of the role will be to effectively manage Product, Plant and People, with the latter focused on managing through shift team leaders. You will mentor, support and develop the shift team leader population and be the driver of Continuous improvement, safety, quality and cost reduction for the department.

Main Duties:
1. Responsible for the management and coordination of department operations including H&S, Hygiene, Quality, CI, Production scheduling, Manufacture and packing, input of production data, materials & packaging, Staff training & development and communications.
2. Improve the safety performance of the department by addressing any physical issues whilst promoting a positive safety culture/ attitude among staff.
3. Encourage and drive incident reporting at target levels.
4. At all times ensure that Health and safety requirements are met in the role holder's area of responsibility in accordance with company Health and Safety policy, procedures, practices and legislation.
5. To ensure food safety, legality and quality requirements are met
6. Effectively deliver excellent communications and team engagement.
7. Maintain and improve hygiene, food safety and GMP of the department.
8. Ensure product Quality standards are consistently achieved.
9. Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are relevant, up to date and in use.
10. Manage the department to minimise cost through effective utilisation of Manpower, Materials and Equipment.
11. Coach Team leader(s) in the planning and scheduling of production, co-ordinate and control the manufacturing processes to maximise product quality and output.
12. Manage area headcount, grades and budget spends.
13. Support, drive root cause problem solving and Continuous Improvement activities (5s, Six Sigma, SMED).
14. Work across the operation team to deliver improvements against budget in Downtime, Efficiency, Yield, Quality, Health & Safety and Absence.
15. Monitor / Manage performance against KPI's
16. Gather and expedite information from various sources/ parties
17. Lead department projects and initiatives
18. Work within company policy as outlined in the Handbook
19. To formulate business continuity within the Production function.
20. At all times ensure that all internal and external data protection requirements are strictly adhered to within your area of responsibility and that any breach, either direct or observed is reported in line with the correct company protocol.
21. All tasks can be delegated upwards, or to the immediate subordinates in all cases - in accordance with the Company Organogram. It is assumed that the post holder has the responsibility to deputise for all subordinate roles.
22. The job holder will be required to perform other reasonable duties assigned by their manager from time to time.
Qualifications & Experience:
23. HND or Bachelors Degree in subjects such as Business Management, Logistics, Materials Technology, Industrial Technology, or Mechanical Engineering
24. Experience in production and manufacturing processes and techniques, preferably in food or related business.
25. Lean Practitioner - Green/Black belt desirable, but not essential
26. HACCP related qualification is desirable, but not essential
27. IOSH H&S qualification desirable, but not essential
