Job Introduction
EET Practitioner - Care Leavers Service
SO1/Band 8
Bradford Children and Families Trust are expanding the Care Leavers Service and are recruiting for an EET Practitioner to work with children and young people aged between 16 years and 25 years of age preparing to leave care, supporting them to gain education, training or employment and improve EET outcomes for care leavers.
About the Role
Young people leaving care are far more likely than other young people their age to be NEET (Not in education, employment or training). Between 30% and 41% of care leavers aged 19 to 21 years are not engaged in education, employment, or training (NEET), whereas only 12% of all young people in that same age group are NEET.
Young people leaving care can experience significant barriers in obtaining employment, education and training. Many young people may need support gaining core skills and qualifications, may have had poor experiences in school and experience other life challenges such as emotional and mental health needs and housing issues that make getting into college or work more difficult. Sadly, some young people leaving care also experience stigma and discrimination in the workplace.
The Care leavers service EET worker role has been created in acknowledgement that young people leaving care need additional support and advocacy to overcome these challenges and to get into EET. The practitioner will work directly with young people to provide them with additional support and help young people access support from careers services in the community. The practitioner will also help develop EET partnerships across the Trust, community services, further and higher education and employers to raise awareness of the needs of care leavers and reduce the number of care leavers not in education, employment of training.
About you
We want young people leaving care to feel loved and cared about and to know that we have high aspirations for their future. If you believe this too, believe that you can be that caring person for young people leaving care and make a positive impact on their lives, we want to hear from you.
