To be added Job Title: Packaging Materials Developer II – OTP Reports To: Principal Packaging Development Manager – Combustibles Location: Southampton Principal Accountabilities Leadership Provide Technical expertise on OTP packaging and materials specifications to internal and external stakeholders Work closely with project initiators, including Marketing, Operations, LEX, to scope any new wrapping material project, and provide relevant information to project stakeholders Establish material/ specifications with relevant property descriptions and production tolerances. Represent Packaging in OTP Technical Review meetings. Provide technical input and recommendations on all wrapping material development related matters, technical training and development. Lead ESG developments pertaining to OTP material portfolio globally Operational Develop, evaluate, qualify and specify the new varied types of OTP packaging materials and formats and modify existing ones in conjunction with suppliers, factories, marketing, procurement and supply chain. Define a trial plan to qualify new materials (MQS), agree the trial plan with Quality and Engineering, manage the trial execution at the supplier or/and factory, validate and conclude on the trial results if the drafted specification is fit for purpose. Define, guide and manage the approval process of OTP wrapping material specifications in the Technical Review Meetings in terms of technical, printability and runnability assessment and packaging functionality. Final approver of packaging specification and recipes. Work closely with operating companies and suppliers in the region to share and agree best practise test methods to ensure material property specifications are met Wrapping materials are delivered within the set tolerances. Develop key packaging supplier capabilities across the region to roll out new technologies. Support with technical assessments for new material suppliers. Management Manage the material qualification (MQS) at BAT’s factories for new or modified OTP packaging developments to validate the specification under development. Define and manage the approval of any OTP wrapping material specifications with internal and external stakeholders Support factories on technical issues - optimising the wrapping materials To improve the performance Cost-effectiveness of materials Manage all new material developments on time, in full and compliant with Product Stewardship (Annex 3 quality and brand standards). Manage the identification and reduction of wrapping material complexity to increase productivity. Manage material source change projects. This is evidenced by: All packaging related activities delivered OTIF as per agreed plans. Successful development or modification of materials or formats which meet project objectives, timeline, cost and quality parameters. For each new material a full specification is in place before final production starts (SAP) and which meet all stakeholders’ requirements. Full compliance to Brand Standards and Global Material Standards. Reliable and dedicated source of technical expertise to all stakeholders. Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent in scientific, chemical or technical background. 5 years’ experience in packaging development (FMCG or other related industries) is desirable, experience in OTP Materials is instrumental. Ingredients & Materials – Excellent relevant technical experiences with thorough knowledge of Material ingredients, Material production processes, Material properties/behaviours & Material testing methods related to all packaging wrapping materials. Laboratory Techniques – Good expert knowledge of materials testing methods, related equipment and statistical process control. Good knowledge and experience of printing and finishing process. Good project management skills -ability to plan and manage multiple projects across functional levels. Ability for decision making based on expertise and situation. Good command of English language is needed. Excellent computer Literacy (MS word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, SAP, statistical process control (SPC) etc.) An experienced user of statistical process control (SPC) and other analytical tools. Be able to analyse data, interpret them into meaningful information, and transform them into objective actions. Ability to articulate and resolve technical (and commercial) issues with other experts, and to maintain simple yet effective communication with non-technical people. to be added
