Job Description:
NHS HIGHLAND
Raigmore Hospital
Clinical Development Fellow
40 hours per week
This post does not include the additional banding supplement
6 months (Feb - July 2023 inclusive)
Applications are invited from trainee doctors having recently completed or about to finish either UK Foundation Programmes or Core Medical Training to apply for the position of Clinical Development Fellow (CDF) in Haematology.
The successful applicant will join a progressive Haematology team at Raigmore Hospital, a Cancer centre with full support and radiotherapy services on site. The post holder will gain experience in the diagnosis and management of common malignant haematological disorders (e.g. myeloma, lymphomas, and leukaemias); in benign haematology (e.g. ITP and haemolysis) and in haemostasis and thrombosis including treatment of haemophilia. You will learn how to approach investigation of a new patient. You will gain experience in use of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other new 'targeted' anti-cancer medicines although you will not be expected to prescribe these treatments.
Attending MDTs with radiology and pathology input will aid understanding of diagnostic processes and assessment of disease response (e.g. review of biopsy specimens and PET scans).
There is the opportunity to learn about the clinical trials currently open for recruitment in the department and to attend national meetings (e.g. CAR-T cell therapy MDT and Teenage/Young Adult cancer MDTs) for education.
In addition, the successful candidate will have 6 hours per week of CPD/development time and 2 hours of in-house training.
The department provides BCSH level 2b clinical services including treatment of all malignancies on site. Stem cell transplant work is undertaken on a shared care basis with the relevant Scottish centres. The department also acts as a Haemophilia Centre, has an active Clinical trials program and is supported by dedicated Nurse, Audit and Research staff.
