The post holder is a Dosimetrist working in radiotherapy treatment planning which is part of the Radiotherapy Physics Department in The Beacon Centre, Taunton, Somerset FT. The post holder is a member of a team of dosimetrists, a radiotherapy physics assistant and clinical scientists who provide the specialist clinical technical services of the department. The post holder contributes directly to these services, producing and checking treatment plans, and producing accessories for immobilisation and normal tissue shielding. The Radiotherapy Service in Somerset FT treats around 1600 patients a year on 3 Elekta Versa HD linear accelerators - all equipped with CBCT, FFF and SGRT (Align RT) functionality. A Canon Aquilion CT scanner provides imaging for treatment planning which over the next 12 months will move from Philips Pinnacle to Raysearch Raystation.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
1. Participate in the day to day work of the treatment planning section, ensuring the timely production and delivery of computerised radiotherapy treatment plans for patients undergoing radiotherapy including both routine and highly complex treatments within the timescales dictated by the Cancer Standards.
2. Participate in the day-to-day work of the Mould Room, ensuring timely production of devices and accessories required for patient immobilisation and normal tissue shielding.
3. Participate in the production of complex 3D computer treatment plans including Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT)/Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) for breast and pelvic radiotherapy.
4. Support research and development activities including clinical trials, as agreed with the Lead Clinical Scientist for Treatment Planning or Lead Dosimetrist.
5. Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings as a treatment planning representative.
6. Fulfil the role of Operator within the meaning of the Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017. The post holder must hold HCPC registration as a Radiographer or VRCT registration as a Clinical Technologist.
7. The treatment planning team is moving into an exciting new era as we commission the Raystation TPS, and the successful candidate will play an active role in investigating best use of new functionality and providing treatment plan data for verification.

Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in relevant subject e.g. Radiotherapy, Radiography, Physics, Clinical Technology. Registration either as Therapy Radiographer (HCPC) or Clinical Technologist (RCT).
