Building on the success of our long-established Corporate Sustainability team, we are looking for an established Principal Consultant with a strong track record in the assessment of greenhouse gas emissions calculation and reporting, compliance, target setting and the development of Net Zero Carbon strategies to work alongside our experienced team of consultants, supporting in the delivery of high quality project outputs to our established client base. We are flexible regarding location, and whilst ideally Manchester based, we would be happy to consider appointments in Scotland or the South West of England.
You should be able to demonstrate strong analytical and numerical skills and be well organised, self-motivated and effective communicators with good interpersonal skills. A strong track record in Project management is essential. Experience of team leadership/line management and work winning will be considered an advantage.
About the role:
Examples of projects that you would be expected to help deliver might include:
* Greenhouse gas calculations and reporting of Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions in accordance with the GHG Protocol and similar methodologies and standards.
* Calculations and reporting to support our client in accordance with Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) guidelines.
* Supporting clients in the preparation of submissions to CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project).
* Identification and quantification of energy efficiency and carbon reduction opportunities on client sites through energy and decarbonisation site surveys and audits.
* Development of Net Zero Carbon strategies and pathways, both “top down” and “bottom up”.
* Development of corporate sustainability/ESG strategies.
* Supporting clients in the development, submission, and validation of targets in accordance with the methodology set out by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

About you:
If you think this could be the right role for you, we would love to hear from you. We envisage that you will be able to demonstrate:
* Qualified to degree-level or higher, within a relevant science or engineering-related subject.
* Chartered or Practitioner Member status of a relevant technical body, e.g. IEMA, Energy Institute, CIBSE, etc. Or the ability to demonstrate progress towards Chartership.
* Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative as well as working effectively as part of a team.
* Track record in managing multiple complex projects, including client management, quality assurance and project administration.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate directly with our clients.
* Computer literacy including familiarity with the Microsoft Office in particular MS Excel.
* Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Willingness and ability to travel for short periods to undertake work (e.g. surveys) on client sites in both UK and overseas locations.
* Ability and enthusiasm to quickly and independently upskill and support on new and developing standards and methodologies as they arise and become relevant to our clients.
It would be great although not essential if you could also bring:
* Experience of the identification of energy and carbon reduction technologies and techniques, applicable to the built environment (ESOS Lead Assessor status beneficial).
* Experience in Line Management of small teams.
* Track record in business development, including client management, proposal and bid writing.
* Full driving licence valid in UK.
* Experience with specialist and sector specific emissions estimation (e.g. land sector & removals, cement and aggregates, process emissions).
We are open to hybrid working arrangements. The bulk of our team is based in the Manchester office and occasional e.g. weekly/fortnightly visits to the office would be beneficial to both the successful candidate and the wider team. We also have an office location in Leeds which would also be available as a work location, alongside occasional home working by agreement.
