Your new Role
National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Health and Safety Manager to join our team in Safety, Engineering & Standards (SES) on a permanent basis. The Health and Safety Manager will support with the management of National Highways Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management system and input into the wider team to support with continual improvement. The Health and Safety Manager will also manage and coordinate the creation of content for the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System ensuring it is legally compliant and relevant to National Highways as an Employer, Network Operation and Client.
Please note that this role can be based from any of our UK offices but travel to Bedfordshire to attend meetings will be required.
You will also be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full driving licence, with no more than 3 points, to be considered for this position and during employment
What you’ll lead on
1. Ensure consistency and quality of content of Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System so that it aligns with other relevant National Highways policies and procedures.
2. Ensure that the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System is useable and well used by all who need it.
3. Provide technical advice regarding the content of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System.
4. Manage communication, both formal and informal, of revisions, amendments, and updates to Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System.
5. Ensure that the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System align with the National Highways key risks and business needs.
6. Manage the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System to user/stakeholder expectations.
7. Champion document control, challenging ‘local’ solutions.
To be successful
8. NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent health and safety qualification
9. Applied knowledge and experience of UK H&S Legislation – maintaining awareness of current and proposed future legislative requirements / familiar with and or working knowledge of HSG 65 and ISO45001
10. Practical experience in the creation, implementation, revision of management arrangements and systems.
11. Applied knowledge of auditing of management arrangements (desirable)
12. Ability to prioritise and work to critical timescales
13. Ability to communicate and influencing effectively at all organisational levels (including Senior Managers) and across all disciplines, both internal and with external organisations
