About the Opportunity
We invite a Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic Engineering business unit situated in Barnsley. This role involves a diverse portfolio of mechanical and electrical engineering maintenance projects for esteemed clients such as Network Rail and the Canals & River Trust.
Business Unit Overview
Our busy and fast-paced business unit undertakes a wide range of engineering works, primarily focusing on engineering maintenance and infrastructure projects encompassing mechanical & electrical (M&E), Distribution & Plant (D&P), and civil engineering sectors.
Role Overview
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a pivotal role within the commercial team, collaborating closely with Commercial Managers and operational project delivery teams. Your focus will be on the daily commercial management of various engineering projects within our portfolio, primarily support the Network Rail (D&P) and Canals & Rivers Trust project portfolios.
Key Responsibilities:
* Timely presentation of applications for payment, ensuring all contractual entitlements are considered.
* Managing payment receipt in accordance with contract terms.
* Submission of estimate/tendering information to clients promptly.
* Preparing and negotiating Final Accounts, ensuring all contractual entitlements are addressed.
* Regular presentation of weekly cost/value information, delivery schedules, and associated Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data.
* Preparing and presenting Monthly Cost/Value Reconciliations and Final Cost/Value Forecasts.
* Developing forward work schedules and cash flows.
* Overseeing procurement, negotiation, and placement of Sub-contract Orders.
* Managing the financial and commercial aspects of Sub-contractors up to the settlement of their Final Accounts.
* Ensuring all contractual letters, notices, and information are presented as per contract requirements.
* Preparing appropriate documentation for additional payments, variations, and claims.
* Providing commercial support to site and contract management teams.
* Collaborating with Estimating and Procurement teams for commercial support.
* Offering oversight and support to Trainee/Apprentice Quantity Surveyors.
* Maintaining close communication with clients on all commercial matters, including preparing and submitting supporting documentation.
Requirements
To thrive in this role, candidates must possess:
* Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor, particularly in a rail and/or M&E/Power engineering environment.
* A degree qualification and membership with RICS or ICES (or related compensating experience).
* Experience within a contracting environment, specifically in the Civil Engineering sector.
* Proficiency in MS Office applications.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and team management skills.
