Job Description:
4 hours per week Term Time & 6 hours during the school holidays, mostly evening with possible weekend, £12.40 an hour (gross) at all times.
I am seeking a PA for my 14-year-old son, who has autism, ADHD, and cognitive delay. My son needs assistance to access activities in the community and to access transport. I require a person that can be both caring and act as reassurance to him when he is feeling anxious or needs support. The person I employ will have an understanding of the need for confidentiality in all areas of work, including total respect for our privacy.
My son’s personal assistant must supervise him at all times, not necessarily in a hands-on manner; they need to have a stepped-back approach, acting almost as a supervisor. They need to be aware of his vulnerability and ensure his safety. My son appears to be “normal” and is high functioning, so his disabilities can be overlooked. He is good at social interactions and fits in well with peers.
Supervision: He needs a hands-off approach, meaning most of the time you just need to be in the room to allow him to be independent and build his confidence. He needs reminders of appropriate behaviour as he is a cheeky lad that will test the rules and boundaries. He has a large and irrational fear of insects, so anything like butterflies near him will make him feel uncomfortable; in this situation, he needs reassurance and guidance to feel safe. He is not physical in any way.
Support Tasks:
1. Accompany my son on days out.
2. Accompany my son to activities in the community.
3. Suggest activities that my son would enjoy.
4. Accompany my son to social activities.
5. Be mindful of my son’s safety at all times.
6. Always supervise my son, and do not allow him to be alone even if this is at a distance.
7. Use strategies to distract and encourage him when he is feeling less confident.
8. Have clear boundaries set and expectations of behaviour whilst he is with you.
9. Encourage appropriate social interactions with peers and adults.
10. Any other reasonable requests will be discussed first and then implemented where required.
If you are interested and would like to discuss further, please apply via UKCIL.
