Job summary
We are looking to recruit band 6 experienced midwives with an interest in providing Community Midwifery care to a caseload of women, The successful applicants will be confident and competent in all aspects of midwifery care.
We currently have three community midwifery teams (Kettering, Corby and Wellingborough) which cover a large geographical area.
You will work as a member of the midwifery team, taking responsibility for clients and babies at home and in the clinic setting. At all times adhering to the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Professional Conduct 2015 (NMC). Shift patterns may vary depending on the area and the model of care in place, however flexibility will be required to cover days, and an out-of-hours on call rota 7 days per week to ensure comprehensive service provision. The post holder will be required to have access to a car/transport and ability to travel between locations and provide home visits.
As a Midwife, you will offer individualised, evidence-based care to a diverse group of service users. Your approach will be adaptable to meet the unique needs of each service user, operating independently and flexibly.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be required to work flexibly across all settings, encompassing antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and community services, consistently honing skills in all facets of midwifery care. Establishing trustworthy relationships with service users is fundamental, whilst fostering an environment of safety where service users are empowered to make informed decisions and formulate personalised care plans.

Job responsibilities
1.CLINICAL
To utilise the full skills of a midwife for the provision of care in the ante-natal, intra-partum and postnatal period which will include the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in midwifery care over a 24 hour period for mothers and their babies, being mindful of the cultural and spiritual needs of the client. Being able to recognise deviations from the normal, initiate referral to the multi-disciplinary team member(s) and participate in appropriate care as appropriate.
To continue to develop clinical expertise and skills in accordance withTrust policy and commensurate with the role of the Midwife.
Carry out midwifery care to the highest possible standard according to agreed Trust policies and with the NMC Codes of conduct and practice and within local and Trust policies and protocols.
Ensure that clients partners are kept informed of their condition and progress ensuring early referral to appropriate Matron/Doctor when support is required.
Maintains effective communication with all grades of midwifery staff, medical staff and other disciplines involved in the mother's care and ensures that medical staff are notified promptly of any complications or deviations from normal care pathways.
Assists the medical staff with medical procedures when required, ensuring that appropriate midwifery care is maintained.
Take all necessary steps to prevent and control the spread of infection including maintaining records of suspected and/or known cases of infection in liaison with the Control of Infection team and reporting all suspect or known cases of infection to the Head of Midwifery.
Develop an active role in Health Promotion.
Assists in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs and ensures that PGDs are utilised and updated on an annual basis.
Identifies and minimises clinical risk in line with the Trusts RISK Management Strategy reporting all incidents and accidents to Midwifery Matron or Lead Midwife.
Ensures that all equipment is maintained in safe working order, and if necessary, returned to the appropriate department when no longer required.
To participate in the implementation and audit of standards of care as required.
To contribute to the completion of clinical practice bench-marking.
Where required, to work autonomously within departmental guidelines and sphere of professional practice.
2. RESEARCH/AUDIT
To participate in the audit of standards of care as required.
To contribute to the completion of clinical practice bench-marking and data collection as required.
To ensure that practice is evidence based and contribute to sharing good practice within the CBU (Clinical Business Unit) and within the Trust
3. EDUCATION
To act as mentor/assessor of student nurses/midwives, Midwifery Support Workers and Health Care Assistants, providing mentorship/clinical supervision as required.
To assist in developing and creating a suitable learning environment, including ensuring relevant educational material is available on the ward and shared with others.
Participate in the teaching of mothers and partners as required. Participate in organised programmes of health education for women and their partners.
Participate in and identify own KSF Appraisal/Personal Development Plan in accordance with the Trust appraisal/performance review process.
Participate in emergency obstetric skill drills as required.
To participate in the teaching and mentoring of all students, Ward Based Care Assistants and Maternity Support Workers as required.
Participate and undertake any other such training and development as required in accordance with the requirements of the role and the needs of the service.
To ensure participation in annual restorative clinical supervision with the named Professional Midwifery Advocate.
4.MANAGERIAL
Follow the Trust protocols in relation to all complaints and report all complaints to the Ward/ Community Matron or Lead Midwife.
Establish and maintain effective communication with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and with other wards/departments within the hospital.
Ensure resources are used efficiently and effectively, taking responsibility for ensuring equipment is regularly tested and maintained.
Act in accordance with KGH-NHS Trust Policy detailing ordering, storage, preparation and administration of medicines, ensuring a high degree of accuracy.
Assist with the orientation of new staff as required and be a named preceptor as identified.
Ensure knowledge of Trust Safeguarding processes, seeking guidance and support when required to initiate referral to other agencies. To participate in case conferences and generation of reports as required. To Liaise closely with the named midwife for safeguarding as indicated.
Ensure adherence to Trust and national guidelines, policies and procedures regarding the Safeguarding of Children and Adults.
Participate in Ward / Team and CBU meetings as required.
Participate in identifying and minimising clinical risk in line with the Trusts Risk Management and Midwifery Risk strategies.
Liaise with the Matron or Lead Midwife regarding workload, staffing levels and the needs of the area as required.
