Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Gaelic Translator and Policy Officer for an initial 23 month contract in a rate of £25.12/Hour PAYE. This role will be a hybrid working model of both home and office working.
Responsibilities:
- The post holder will contribute to the implementation of duties in the Gaelic Language Plan involving translation, awareness raising, and policy development. They will help undertake significant translation duties such as translating policy documents to Gaelic as well as news releases, social media content and the monitoring of Gaelic language media.
- The post holder will be able to contribute to the development of policy across the organisation. This will involve engaging with policy areas where Gaelic has a distinct interest to ensure that the language and its requirements are taken into account in the course of their policy development. There is also a duty to raise awareness of Gaelic – ranging from the value of Gaelic as an asset in the organisation’s work to the opportunities which exist for colleagues to learn and use the language. The post holder will also be able to contribute to the development and implementation of the Scottish Languages Bill.
- Assisting with the implementation of the Gaelic Plan. Gaelic language tasks such as translation, grammatical and terminological advice, and research into wider language issues.
- Supporting colleagues with translations of documents and internal and external communications.
- Contributing to Gaelic aspects of policy development across government and to the Scottish Language Bill
Essential Skills:
- Ability to translate into and from Gaelic/ English across all forms of ranges and registers
- Post holder will be expected to translate and proof documents such as Government policy documents, speeches, correspondence, consultation papers, press lines and other material for use in media
