Are you passionate about ensuring the safety and well-being of building occupants and the public? As a Building Surveyor’s Assistant, you'll play a crucial role in supporting the Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS) and the Building Control Group to protect the health, safety, and amenity of the City of Melbourne.
In this role, you will assist with building surveying and inspection services, respond to building complaints and enquiries, conduct building inspections and investigations, and perform plan checking and audit services for existing buildings, places of public entertainment (POPE), and buildings under construction. You'll also utilize enforcement tools within building legislation to ensure compliance.
This position offers a unique opportunity to gain diverse experience by working with a wide range of building types, from domestic homes to complex multistorey commercial and historic buildings, as well as small to large-scale events. While this is not a senior role, you'll have the chance to work independently with minimal guidance from senior staff. Your work will directly contribute to the safety and enjoyment of Melbourne's vibrant community.
What you will bring...(selection criteria)
* Excellent knowledge of Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, National Construction Codes Volume One and Two;
* A good knowledge in building legislative standards and procedures;
* Registration as a Building Practitioner in the category of Building Inspector Limited, or Building Surveyor Limited;
* Completed studies in building science, building inspections, building surveying;
* Eligible for registration as a Building Practitioner in the category of Building Inspector Limited, or Building Surveyor Limited;
