Key Responsibilities
* Strategic Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of innovative strategies for waste management, fleet maintenance, and transport services, aligning with local, national, and environmental sustainability goals.
* Operational Excellence: Oversee the day-to-day operations of waste collection, recycling, fleet management, and transport services, ensuring high performance, efficiency, and value for money.
* Sustainability and Innovation: Drive the council’s green agenda by exploring and implementing environmentally friendly waste solutions, fleet electrification, and sustainable transport initiatives.
* Performance Monitoring: Set clear KPIs, monitor service performance, and ensure continuous improvement across all areas of waste, fleet, and transport.
* Compliance and Safety: Ensure all operations comply with regulatory requirements, including health and safety standards, environmental regulations, and vehicle maintenance obligations.
* Budget Management: Oversee the budgeting and financial performance of the waste, fleet, and transport departments, ensuring services are delivered cost-effectively.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including residents, contractors, environmental bodies, and internal departments to ensure collaborative service delivery.
* Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a multi-disciplinary team, promoting a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
About you
We are seeking an experienced leader with a deep understanding of waste, fleet, and transport operations, alongside a passion for driving sustainable solutions. You will have a proven track record of leading complex services in a local authority or similar setting and possess excellent management, communication, and strategic planning skills.
Key Skills and Experience
* Experience: Extensive experience in waste management, fleet operations, and transport services, preferably in a public sector or local authority environment.
* Strategic Leadership: Strong ability to develop and deliver long-term strategies, aligning operational activities with broader environmental and community goals.
* Sustainability Expertise: In-depth knowledge of sustainability practices, including waste reduction, recycling innovations, fleet electrification, and low-emission transport solutions.
* Operational Excellence: Proven experience in managing complex, high-volume operational services, ensuring high performance and compliance with regulatory standards.
* Budget Management: Strong financial acumen with experience in managing large budgets and delivering cost-effective services.
* Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including internal teams, contractors, and the public.
* Team Leadership: Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating diverse teams to deliver high-quality services.
