Role Overview:
Mech Electrics are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Quantity Surveyor to join our clients team working on a significant £20m Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) project based in Lancaster. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the financial aspects of the project, from cost planning and budgeting through to final account settlements and you will work within a collaborative and dynamic team, delivering a high-quality service to our client while maintaining cost control and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the commercial and financial management of the £20m M&E project, ensuring it is delivered within budget and on schedule.
Prepare and manage cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow projections.
Manage subcontractor procurement, valuations, and payments.
Prepare tender documentation and assess tender returns.
Conduct value engineering exercises to optimize costs without compromising on quality.
Monitor and report on project performance, highlighting any potential cost overruns or savings.
Attend regular site meetings and liaise with the project team, subcontractors, and clients to ensure the project remains on track.
Review and negotiate variations, claims, and disputes.
Ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.
Maintain accurate records and provide timely reporting to senior management and stakeholders.
Assist with the preparation and submission of final accounts.
Key Requirements:
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the M&E sector, with a strong understanding of M&E works on large-scale projects.
Experience managing projects with a value of £10m+ is highly desirable.
Strong working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
High level of attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
A degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field (e.g., RICS, CIOB).
Strong IT skills, including proficiency with MS Office and cost management software (e.g., COINS, Buildsoft).
Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
