Job Title: Legal and Compliance Advisor
Reports to: Legal Counsel
Position Type: Full-time
Salary Range: £35,000 - £45,000 per year
Location: Hybrid – 1 day in the office every 2 weeks.
Role Summary:
As a Legal and Compliance Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting the legal, risk, and compliance functions. You will work closely with the Legal Counsel and assurance team to ensure the business remains compliant with legal and regulatory standards, while also helping improve internal processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct research to stay up to date on laws and regulations, and communicate changes and advice clearly to colleagues at all levels.
2. Document findings from compliance reviews and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
3. Review and update key internal documents (e.g., frameworks, policies, standards, product assessments) to ensure compliance with the latest legal requirements.
4. Assist in producing management reports and documentation using Microsoft Office tools.
5. Provide legal administrative support, including managing the legal database, document signatures, and maintaining legal files.
6. Support the review and approval process for key documents, including customer-facing materials.
7. Assist with meeting secretarial duties, including taking minutes and tracking action points.
8. Maintain accurate records of legal and compliance activities, audits, and assessments.
9. Coordinate the completion of paperwork with internal contributors and approvers.
10. Draft and update basic legal letters, contracts, and similar documents.
11. Ensure efficient systems and processes are in place to support the team’s activities.
12. Handle routine administrative tasks such as typing, filing, scanning, and general office support.
Essential Qualifications:
1. A degree or relevant qualification in legal, compliance, or a related field.
2. Experience in a legal, risk, or compliance role, preferably within financial services.
3. Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate work under pressure.
4. Confidence in communicating with colleagues at all levels and the ability to work independently.
5. Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Desirable Skills:
1. A proactive, “can-do” attitude, ready to take ownership and dive into tasks.
2. A strong focus on delivering positive outcomes for the business and contributing to the team’s success.
3. Experience with diary management and managing a personal caseload.
