Department purpose
Achieving the firm’s vision requires a world-class Finance department and the Global Financial Control team adds value when the information we produce enables exceptional decision-making. The team provides high-quality advice and relevant, accurate information to key decision-makers in A&O Shearman, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations and delivering our service efficiently.
Role purpose
This role will involve overseeing the documentation, processes, and reconciliations required to support the Firm’s intercompany balances whilst striving to implement improvements and efficiencies. You will liaise with CFOs across the network to actively manage their intercompany balance sheet accounts alongside cash and regulatory requirements. The role will also involve managing the work of the intercompany accounts assistant and acting as an advisor in this area of expertise.
Role and responsibilities
1. A&O Shearman has material intercompany transactions and balances arising between the business units across the global group. This role is responsible for managing and documenting these balances for the group to ensure compliance with tax and reporting requirements.
2. Maintain and improve Intercompany processes to ensure procedures run smoothly.
3. Ensure sufficient controls are implemented and operating effectively to maintain accurate records.
4. Review and maintain policy and procedure documents explaining intercompany documentation requirements for each jurisdiction within the Group.
5. Ensure a catalogue of documentation to support intercompany transactions for the global group is maintained.
6. Review the reporting requirements of offices and support the development of reports from the finance system.
7. Support the Finance network by answering intercompany accounting or policy/process questions.
8. Correspond with Finance staff across the network on matters relating to the intercompany accounts and related documentation.
9. Produce information reports and control reports for the management team.
10. Review monthly reconciliations of multi-currency GL accounts for global inter-office accounts.
11. Oversee the preparation of intercompany invoices to support cross-border transactions in accordance with UK and overseas tax requirements in the jurisdictions where A&O Shearman operates, collaborating with the Partnership Affairs and Tax team as required.
12. Preparation and review of intercompany settlements, and reconciliation of intercompany accounts.
13. Review and advise on the accounting entries required to maintain the intercompany accounts.
14. Support the group annual external audit of intercompany balances; and local office audits as required.
15. Project manage the review of intercompany balances office by office to ensure the regular settlement of intercompany balances in line with the regulatory and cash requirements of each office.
16. Act as trusted advisor to the global finance community, building and maintaining relationships across the finance network and being a go-to point of contact on intercompany accounting and policy/process questions.

Qualifications and experience
Member of a recognised accounting body as a qualified accountant.
Previous experience in a finance function.
Experience in an international environment is preferred.
