This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and adaptable individual who likes to make a difference to people’s lives, to join a very active admin team, Accountant for the Service Charitable Funds held by 14 Regt RA. The successful candidate will need to be organised, a good communicator with great interpersonal skills as well as a self-starter.
You will have the opportunity to work in a mixed team of military and civil servants as part of a wider Regimental Headquarters’ team managing and accounting for all non-public monies. This exciting and fulfilling role is located in Larkhill.
14th Regiment Royal Artillery provides a foundation of excellence, preparing new Gunners for their initial regimental employment and supporting the training and development of the wider Royal Regiment. It is located within Larkhill Garrison, north of the City of Salisbury, Wiltshire.
The Regiment delivers a wide range of Initial Trade Training activity (for Royal Artillery soldiers and officers) and facilitates Subsequent Trade Training and Equipment Support for the Royal School of Artillery.
The Regiment also delivers experimentation and innovation for the Royal Regiment, working closely with Land Warfare Centre’s Experimentation and Trials Group, alongside other cap badges and capabilities.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
In collaboration with the RAO, they will manage the maintenance of Service Charitable Accounts held by 14 Regt RA/RSA. They are responsible to the Senior Fund Manager for all functional matters in operating the PAXTON accounting system and associated Central Bank account.
The responsibilities of this post will include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Manage accounts and subsidiary books using PAXTON+ software.
* Manage an accurate cashier counter service; issue, receive and record cash and/or cheques; check and stamp supporting paperwork; reconcile cash/cheques on a daily basis (using spreadsheets – Microsoft Excel).
* Manage cash paid into the commercial bank selected by the Managing Trustee (MT); at least weekly, ensuring the cash holding limit of £15k is not exceeded.
* Record all entries onto the Accounting System PAXTON+.
* Manage the safe custody of all financial instruments (cheque/pass book) which are to be secured when not in use.
* Manage maintenance of Registers.
* Ensure appropriate month-end procedures are actioned on the last working day of each month.
* Reconcile bank accounts on a weekly basis, minimum.
* Complete all end-of-year procedures for all funds and send to SW Bde within the 2-month timeframe.
* Mandatory courses will be the Regimental Accounts Course at Worthy Down.
Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in attendance. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another MOD workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance. Person specification
Essential:
* Sound IT Skills, specifically Excel
* Good numerical and literacy skills.
* Ability to work on own initiative and with minimal direction.
* Good problem solver
* Highly motivated and strong organisational skills.
Desirable
* Has the ability to manage competing priorities.
* Enjoys working in a busy Headquarters.
* Previous accounting experience (Military or Civilian).
* Regimental Accountant qualified would be an advantage but not essential as training will be provided.
