New Directions Liverpool are looking for a behaviour support assistant for a Pupil Referral Unit based in Southport for a Long-term role. If successful, you will be required to support children who suffer from social, emotional, and mental health issues. This role will be to start ASAP, subject to clearance.
Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
* Have excellent communication skills.
* Be able to build strong relationships with students and staff.
* Be encouraging and supportive.
* Have a positive attitude towards teaching and aiding children's development.
* Ensure the safety and well-being of the students.
Although the role is based around education support, due to the children’s personal needs and behaviours, they require consistent mentoring, motivating, and advising, as well as some counselling to maintain their well-being, enabling them to achieve more in their education and work towards a more independent future.
Behaviours displayed by the children can be challenging, so applicants must be prepared to practice de-escalation and calming techniques, as well as maintaining an empathetic approach and understanding that behaviours stem from other problems. Candidates from care, sports, psychology, criminology, sociology, and youth work backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Job Specification:
* Have experience working with children or adults with additional needs.
* Hold a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
* Able to support children of all abilities.
* Have a positive and ambitious attitude to learning.
