Portsmouth Water is offering an exciting opportunity for dedicated and skilled Production Operators to join our dynamic team. As a Production Operator, you will play a crucial role in operating, controlling, and monitoring the company's production assets to ensure the continuous delivery of safe, wholesome drinking water to our valued customers. The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining and overseeing the performance of various water treatment processes. You will work across multiple sites, visiting pumping stations, reservoirs, and water treatment works to monitor and ensure the operability and efficiency of the systems in place. As part of the team, you will be integral to maintaining the high quality and reliability of Portsmouth Water’s service, ensuring that every customer receives clean, safe drinking water every day.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
* Data collection of water quality and asset performance, recording routine activities and work completed.
* Operate and maintain treatment work assets, taking, monitoring, recording and interpreting water samples to ensure treatment process are working effectively.
* Operate clean water treatment processes, for example, chemical dosing, coagulation and flocculation, filtration, disinfection, and storage.
* Monitoring of external activities in the areas surrounding our works for any activities that may affect the integrity of the water sources.
* Valve operations and schematic reading.
* Maintaining the relevant treatment and disinfection processes employed at our sites, including working with water treatment chemicals, for example, chlorine and sulphur dioxide gas systems.
* Work with project team to safely isolate and drain reservoirs and contact tanks for periodic cleaning and inspections.
* Basic maintenance and tasks associated with chemicals for example, chlorine gas cylinder changing, receive bulk liquid chemicals deliveries.
* Assess and optimise energy on site and carry out checks for safety, security, and productivity, reporting any faults, issues and concerns that need escalation.
* Conduct disinfection of plant, tools, and equipment.
* Responsible for routine site maintenance on production assets.
* Manage 3rd party accesses to production sites.
* Monitor water processes using process control equipment, for example Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, to identify issues and trends.

* Be flexible in your work to maintain operational requirements and to ensure positive outcomes are always achieved.
* Knowledge of Chemical Handling and basic hydraulic principles.
* Experience of working with Human Machine Interface (HMI) / touchscreen devices
* A good understanding of water treatment processes and / or water industry exposure.
* Computer and smart phone literate.
* Ideally A to C grade or Level 4 or above, GSCE English, Maths and a Science based subject.
* Full UK driving licence (Will be required to undertake our driver assessment).
