About the job
As a Project Manager, you'll take the lead on medium-sized highway projects, collaborating closely with dedicated subject matter experts and valued clients to ensure the highest level of efficient service provision.
Our work in Highways, Transport and Planning and any given day can often feel quite different from the next! There will be some key responsibilities likely to feature in this role, including:
1. Working to ensure that the allocated highway schemes are delivered by consulting engineers and staff within the agreed deadlines and in accordance with the specified requirements.
2. Leading a team tasked with the design and construction of highway projects by establishing and exemplifying high operational standards, utilising exceptional technical expertise to address challenges, and ensuring timely delivery of key initiatives.
3. Managing the project budget, financial planning, and cost estimation for medium-sized projects, ensuring that the project stays on target and within budget.
4. Establishing and nurturing effective working relationships with a variety of subject matter experts, clients, senior managers, and key project stakeholders.
5. Responsible for the end-to-end completion of projects with the following dimensions: a team of over six individuals, management of a project budget of up to £5 million, a timescale of up to three years, engagement with stakeholders across West Sussex, and contract execution through competitive procurement.
Required qualifications and skills
6. Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Civil Engineering or Transport Planning, demonstrating an appropriate level of applied knowledge in researching, analysing, and evaluating arguments and information.
7. Relevant advanced theoretical, practical, and procedural knowledge related to the operation of a complex project management service.
8. Experience in supporting management and delivering successful projects, evidenced by the effective monitoring and management of complex initiatives to ensure alignment with customer requirements and business needs.
9. Experience in supervising staff and contributing to the development of a cohesive team to achieve objectives.
10. Proficient in financial management, with strong numeracy skills and accountability for managing large budgets.
11. Strong IT skills and the ability to adapt as new applications and platforms emerge is essential.
