Specialist Physiotherapist (Band 6) - Cancer Prehabilitation
Following final approval, this post will be extended to April 2026. Funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research and working as part of the regional Active Together South Yorkshire Service, this post is a great opportunity for a Physiotherapist to make a difference to people from Doncaster and Bassetlaw receiving vital cancer treatments.
This is an exciting time to join this innovative and forward-thinking team expanding to different tumour sites as well as a new central base at The Dome in addition to the Aurora Health and Wellbeing Hub in Worksop. Prehabilitation is a multimodal approach supporting people to prepare for cancer treatments enabling enhanced recovery with fewer complications and better long-term health outcomes. This exciting new field promotes healthy behaviours through the prescription of exercise, nutrition, and psychological interventions.
There will be opportunities for regular clinical supervision, regional networking, internal training, and external courses to develop knowledge and skills specific to Cancer Prehabilitation and rehabilitation.
This successful applicant will work collaboratively with colleagues from Rotherham, Sheffield, and Barnsley Active Together Services to improve standards of care for cancer patients across the region.
Main duties of the job
1. To be a specialist clinician within the speciality of cancer rehabilitation/prehabilitation working across Doncaster and Bassetlaw.
2. To provide a high standard of clinical assessments of patients pre and post cancer treatments.
3. To support the delivery of group exercise and education sessions.
4. Delivery of specialist 1:1 therapy sessions to optimise patient physical function - face to face and working virtually.
5. Support, mentor, and develop more junior staff within the team.
6. Effectively manage own caseload and that of other team members.
7. Support clinical lead AHP in the development of the cancer prehabilitation/rehabilitation service.
8. To work collaboratively with colleagues in health, social care, local authority, and other agencies to meet the needs of patients.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
* A range of experience working as a registered Physiotherapist in different specialties.
* Experience of working in multi-disciplinary/multi-agency teams.
* Experience of participating in service development and quality improvement projects.
Desirable
* Post graduate experience working within cancer pathways or within pulmonary/cardiac rehabilitation services.
* Experience in the delivery of group exercise interventions.
Qualifications / Training
Essential
* Diploma/Degree/Masters in Physiotherapy or equivalent qualification/relevant experience.
* HCPC registration.
* Portfolio evidence of clinically relevant experience.
Desirable
* Evidence of post graduate training in cancer prehab/pulmonary rehab/cardiac rehab.
* Basic first line management.
