Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic midwife who can demonstrate an understanding of how digital technology can support safer care. This post continues national drive within the maternity transformation programme to provide leadership, coordination, facilitation, evaluation, and improvement across the digital maternity work streams by:
* Providing visible, accessible leadership to support the management of change and acting as an effective role model, mentor and coach promoting excellence through practice.
* Supporting the implementation of IT projects in the unit, to meet the needs of service users, service leads and the wider national agenda.
* As the Digital Midwife the post holder will have ownership and responsibility for the co-ordination and collation of data with colleagues in Perinatal Services, IT department and external agencies.
* Working with clinical informatics, business managers and finance to assess the benefits of initiatives and local technology projects and their implementation.
* Identifying and leading significant service and operational transformation, including standardisation of maternity systems and processes, service transition and benefits realisation.
* Ensuring clinical practice is supported effectively by digital technology.

Job responsibilities
* With a senior role within the organisation holding specialist knowledge and skills in Information Technology (IT), the Digital Midwife will represent maternity on behalf of George Eliot Hospital. The post holder will have the ability to establish good team relationships and collaboration within George Eliot Hospital with internal colleagues and local maternity and Neonatal systems.
* We are looking for a highly motivated individual with knowledge of maternity digital systems to support the ongoing digital platform within our maternity and wider perinatal services and lead on service changes including introduction of any new EPR systems in Perinatal services. The maternity digital lead will support the digital agenda alongside our team of senior leaders, midwives, and obstetricians, IT and Digital teams to support the digital agenda within the Better Births and Three year delivery plan.
* The digital midwife will work in collaboration with the senior Perinatal leadership team, clinical leads and Directorate management to design, plan and deliver the digital strategy, facilitating and implementing change within Maternity Services including ensuring compliance with appropriate national standards. The successful candidate will be an ambassador for the Trust being able to manage a challenge, supporting all levels of staff during the implementation of new systems and the maintenance of existing ones.
* The post holder will also ensure that the current maternity IT system functionality is adhered to and maintained.
* The successful candidates will need to have excellent IT knowledge and skill base of both midwifery clinical practice and the digital agenda.

Person Specification
Experience & Knowledge
* Practicing midwife for a minimum of 3 years
* Experience in all midwifery settings
* Evidence of writing guidelines
* Participated in audit
* Experience of working to deadlines
* Experience working within a governance setting and participating in Root Cause Analysis
* Experience of EPR deployment activity
* Experience of Digital Champion networks
* Experience of using EPR solution
Skills & Abilities
* Understanding of the national digital agenda and including the National Maternity review and Safer Maternity Care agenda
* Understanding of the relevance of high quality data
* Up to date and evidence based knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
* In-depth understanding of the Maternity Services Data Set (MSDS, CNST, MTP) and ability to apply the findings to improve service delivery
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills relating to IT system
Qualifications & Training
* Registered midwife with current NMC registration
* First level degree in related healthcare discipline or substantial experiential equivalence
* Undertaken basic qualifications in the use of computer packages such as European Computer Driving License (ECDL) or Word, Powerpoint and excel software
* Teaching qualification and/or recent teaching activity
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Digital Clinical Safety Training or willing to undertake
