One of the UK's biggest Steel companies is hiring for a Production Operative/Engineer - working as an operator to process customer orders to specifications using a selection of manual machinery.
Experience in CNC, Plasma, Saw, and Drill is all favorable; a forklift license is a benefit.
Shifts available are:
Day shift (40 hours per week): Monday to Friday (06:00 - 14:00)
Night shift (37 hours per week): Monday to Thursday (22:00 - 06:00), Friday (19:00 - 00:00)
This includes a 30-minute paid break. All training is carried out on the day shift.
Salaries vary for Day, Mid, and Night shifts.
Overtime is paid at time and a half over 40 hours.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Operate a selection of manual and CNC-based machinery for metal processing.
* Process steel to customers' requirements and tolerances, working within the company's quality system to ensure full traceability of customer orders.
* Read and interpret drawings, orders, and verbal instructions, and be available to train others in this area.
* Safely operate forklifts, CombiLifts, and cranes.
* Perform daily checks on equipment, cranes, and forklifts/CombiLifts before starting shifts.
* Collate orders, including banding, palletizing, bagging, and preparing them for loading.
* Load and offload plate and parts from plasma and laser machines.
* Identify and locate different steel products using appropriate measuring equipment.
* Maintain cleanliness of machines and work areas.
* Report any accidents and incidents to the HS&E Manager.
* Report any machine faults or breakdowns to the Production Supervisor or Maintenance Manager.
* Attend all required training courses.
* Follow all safe systems of work at all times, reporting any shortcomings, changes in tasks, or new activities to the HS&E Department for risk assessment and procedural amendments.
* Actively engage in identifying risks within the workplace, developing suitable safe systems of work, and intervening to prevent health and safety breaches, reporting as necessary.
* Follow the Company Quality Management Systems, policies, and procedures to achieve a quality product and reduce non-conformances.
* Follow the Company Environmental Management System to assist in reducing the environmental impact through waste management and other improvement measures.
