Advanced Speech and Language Therapist - Band 7

We are looking to recruit an innovative, enthusiastic and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Forensic Assessment Consultation, Training and Treatment team (FACTT) which covers the area of Coventry and Warwickshire.
FACTT is a community forensic support service which was originally commissioned in 2018 as part of the Transforming Care Agenda for adults with a learning disability (LD) to support timely discharge from hospital and prevent unnecessary admission to hospital or prison. In an exciting development, the FACTT team expanded late 2021 to include autistic adults who have forensic needs across Coventry and Warwickshire. Based on the core functions of the national specification for community forensic LD and autism services, the community forensic service provides:
* Forensic in-reach support to inpatient services to support safe and timely discharges
* Assessment and management of forensic risk in the community to ensure public safety and safety of the individual
* Consultancy and support
* Training and advice to other agencies
* Treatment: Delivery of offence specific therapeutic interventions
* Case Management of the most high risk cases
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting post; offering the right candidate the opportunity to take a lead role in speech and language therapy provision within the FACTT team. The successful applicant will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, which includes psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, social work and psychiatry. The post holder will be professionally managed and supervised by the AHP lead within the LD & A directorate but will receive clinical support and supervision from within the FACTT team.
To organise, deliver and develop the Speech and Language (SALT) provision in order to deliver agreed service objectives in line with relevant protocols and procedures.
To offer highly-specialist Speech & Language Therapist assessment and interventions to families and carers, working across inpatient and community services.
To manage their own caseload and work with other professionals/carers to help service users to reach recovery goals in the context of their LD and/or autism, risk and social circumstances.
To lead on and contribute to research and service development projects, in line with service priorities and timescales.
To supervise and manage clinical practice as required, including SALT students and other staff working in their clinical area.
Job responsibilities
The successful applicant will have experience working in specialist inpatient or community learning disability and/or autism services and will be competent in working with clients with complex needs. They will be used to managing their own caseload effectively and supervising qualified or unqualified staff as well as delivering and receiving clinical supervision.
They will have had previous involvement in service evaluation and audit.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy.
* Further training and experience in specialist area to Masters level or equivalent.
* Significant post graduate training relevant to the role.
* Current Registration with Health Professions Council without restriction.
Knowledge and skills
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* An excellent understanding of the specific contribution of Speech and Language Therapists in Specialist Forensic Learning Disability and Autism services.
* Ability to demonstrate team building, leadership and organisational skills.
* Demonstrates an understanding and ability to practice in a person-centred way within inpatient and community settings.
* Knowledge in developing and delivering specialist clinical interventions within Specialist Learning Disability and Autism services.
* Demonstrates an understanding of clinical and management supervision skills.
* Knowledge of assessment and treatment services and the specialist role of Speech and Language Therapists.
* Knowledge of the role of Speech and language therapy in secure settings and how forensic services can provide support and reduce the risk of offending behaviour.
Experience
* Broad range of experience in working in Learning disability and/or Autism services.
* Significant experience in working in specialist inpatient or community Learning Disability or Autism services.
* Competence with clients with complex needs.
* Evidence of effective caseload management.
* Experience of supervising registered and/or non-registered staff.
* Experience of delivering and receiving clinical supervision.
* Experience working in secure settings or with offenders.
