About us
We are a friendly, education-minded department with BSE Departmental Accreditation in TTE, Stress Echo, TOE, and Education. We are passionate about supporting the continued professional development and education of our echocardiographers.
St. George's Hospital is a tertiary referral centre providing one of the largest specialised cardiology services in London. As a tertiary cardiac centre, we provide echocardiography support to a wide range of specialties including cardiothoracic surgery, coronary and structural intervention, electrophysiology, inherited cardiac conditions, and heart failure. The Queen Mary's Hospital site is one of the first CDCs in the country providing access to Echo in the community.
Our department has a top-of-the-range, multi-vendor fleet of echocardiography machines all with strain and 4D functionality. Additionally, we have a dedicated echo reporting system with large numbers of reporting stations to help support the workflow of our echocardiographers.
Job responsibilities
Band 7 echocardiographers are encouraged to undergo a period of training in at least one of the following specialist areas: Physiologist/Scientist-led Valve Clinics, Stress Echocardiography, Contrast and Bubble Echo, Maternity Echo, CRT clinic, or inpatient echo triage. Those with the right level of experience and knowledge in these areas can apply to become a sub-speciality lead, where they will work with the lead echocardiographer to develop the service (writing SOPs, performing audits, etc.) during dedicated admin sessions.
We are a large training department hosting students from the Practitioner, Scientist, and Echo Training Programmes. We expect all band 7s to be involved with the training of junior physiologists/doctors, as well as participating in quality assurance, audits, and weekly educational meetings.
