In relation to these posts: these new, 10PA posts will be available immediately and based at St James's University Hospital. The post holders will be responsible for delivering emergency acute surgery to adults admitted acutely to the trust. Job plans can be flexible around individual needs but include supervision and training of general surgical trainees and medical students within the AMS CSU.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should possess FRCS / MB BS (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have established skills in clinical management and surgical management of patients within Emergency General Surgery and its related specialties including general surgery, acute biliary surgery, and trauma surgery. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part-time and those wishing to job share.

How can we enhance and evolve the delivery of Emergency General Surgical Care moving forward into the future?

In relation to this post, over the past four years, LTHT has been at the forefront of developing a bespoke modern-day Emergency General Surgical service, building the Leeds Institute of Emergency General Surgery (LIEGS) team. The team has 9 consultants and is focused on delivering high-quality unplanned emergency general surgical services to the Leeds population. Through an innovative and improvement approach, the team has developed novel ambulatory pathways, diagnostic strategies aligned with rapid access theatre lists, and the remote monitoring virtual ward to enhance the delivery of acute surgical services and patient outcomes. The team is looking to expand the service with further investment and the appointments of new colleagues. This team is led by Mr. Adam Peckham-Cooper, Clinical Lead and Consultant in Emergency General Surgery.
The post will be available immediately and based at St James's University Hospital. The post holder will be responsible for delivering emergency acute surgery to adults admitted acutely to the trust. This is a 10 PA appointment for a Consultant in Emergency General Surgery. Applications are invited from candidates with wide experience in General Surgery. Applicants should possess, or be within 6 months of receiving, a CCT in General Surgery. Whole-time, part-time, and job share applicants are welcome, as are applications from those currently seeking to re-appraise their career pathway.

* Should have completed a recognised training programme in specialist general surgical training or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
* Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
Desirable
* Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
* Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
