We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Catering Assistant Band 2 within our Catering Department at Halton Hospital on an As and When Basis. The successful candidate should have experience in a large-scale catering environment with excellent communication skills; till work is desirable. The ability to work to a high standard is essential. Enthusiasm and flexibility are required, and a good knowledge of food hygiene is also essential. Training will be given to the right candidate.
You would be part of a small, friendly catering team. We pride ourselves on providing a high-quality service to the staff, patients, and visitors.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will be responsible for serving the patients their lunch/evening meal by bulk delivery system, carrying out dishwashing duties, cleaning of equipment, and cleaning the kitchen and associated areas. Serving visitors in the dining room and taking payment using the cash register and card machine. Kitchen porter responsibilities include checking in food deliveries and cleaning all equipment and floors in the kitchen.

Job responsibilities
* To communicate daily with patients, nursing staff, and colleagues in a courteous and polite manner. Contact with nursing staff may be either face to face within the hospital or by receiving telephone requests into the department for extra meals or special diets.
* To liaise with managers and supervisors daily and act upon any specific tasks required.
* Setting up meal trolleys before service, ensuring wards have the correct number of meals, correct diets, and adequate supplies of crockery, cutlery, condiments, etc.
* To ensure all food is probed and documented in line with the HACCP procedures.
* To help serve meals to staff and visitors in our dining room and use a cash register.
* Setting up any beverage or buffet trolleys, ensuring they are delivered on time.
* To ensure all food wastage figures are documented correctly.
* To attend any meetings as and when required.
* To participate in Trust mandatory training or any specific training.
* To ensure that allergen legislation is adhered to at all times.
* Report any equipment faults or health and safety issues to the Manager or Supervisor as and when they may arise.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience in a large catering environment.
Qualifications
* Good general education, Level 2 Food Safety Certificate, must have an NVQ in catering or be working towards one.
Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies
* Must be able to work on own initiative, prioritizing own tasks. Able to work as a team member. Excellent customer care skills. Be aware of HACCP and COSHH.
* Be able to use a cash register and card machine.
Specific Role Requirements
* Due to the nature of the role, must be physically fit, flexible, reliable, and an effective communicator. Maintain a clean and tidy appearance.
Physical Skills
* Must be able to use a computer.
