About The Role Do you have a statistical background in ecology (preferably marine) and data modelling/interpretation? Are you fully competent and fluent in data interpretation and statistical analysis, including the use of relevant software (R & QGIS)? APEM Group are looking for a Principal Marine Ecology Statistician to join our team As a Principal Marine Ecology Statistician, you will provide support and technical knowledge around data analysis and workflows, creating innovative data solutions using technical expertise (e.g. including writing scripts/code in Python/R/SQL/QGIS) to streamline and manage processes efficiently. Working alongside internal project managers, you will analyse and interpret of ornithological and marine mammal data, including attending client/stakeholder meetings where required. You will also contribute to mentoring and upskilling of consultants across MWS where required to do so, as well as line management of junior technical staff. Over time, you will be able to confidently communicate methods used for aerial digital surveys to stakeholders, having built a thorough understanding of aerial digital surveys through the management and maintenance of data workflow processes. Through your knowledge of delivery methodology for the MWS team and industry standards, you will be able to identify where improvements or innovations can be made, and you will be able to collaborate with the relevant teams within APEM to provide success on these ideas. You will have: Postgraduate degree with applied data science or statistics component Experience modelling ecological data; knowledge and experience of a range of statistical methodologies relevant to the analysis of ecological data and can demonstrate ability to adapt/apply them to address specific scientific questions Extensive background in ecology/marine wildlife Numerically literate and proficient in writing and data handling Excellent Microsoft Excel and Word skills Excellent data management and analysis skills Experience handling spatial data Excellent communication skills To be able to work in high-pressure situations and be reactive to competing and changing demands. To be able to deliver presentations to internal and external audiences Experience using statistical programming software including R, QGIS.
