Ogi is a leading Welsh telco with big ambitions. We’re a network builder and operator bringing full-fibre services to communities across South Wales. Our Ogi Pro brand provides everything from telephony to managed IT services, alongside our high-capacity wholesale network that spans the M4 corridor.
Backed by multimillion-pound private investment, we’re proud to be an employer of choice in Wales, creating hundreds of jobs across four offices. Join a purpose-driven team with a culture rooted in innovation that’s shaping Wales’s digital future!
We’re looking for a Network Field Engineer to join our growing team in a hands-on role that offers the chance to grow your technical skills, be recognised for your intuition, and thrive in a supportive team environment.
About you…
We’re looking for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and loves solving technical challenges. Whether you’re an experienced network engineer or someone looking to step into network operations for the first time, you could be just what we need.
A background in fault resolution, incident management, or installation is ideal, but transferable skills from another technical role could also be a great fit—what matters most is your curiosity, drive to learn, and commitment to doing things the right way.
You’re probably the person family and friends call when they need tech advice, someone who’s naturally inquisitive and enjoys problem-solving. Sector-specific experience—like working for an ISP or telecommunications company—is a bonus but not essential. Certifications like SA001, SA002, NRSWA, or knowledge of networking technologies (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia) are helpful, but we’re happy to support your development if you don’t have them yet.
It would also be great (but not essential) if you have experience/knowledge of:
1. Pv4/6 QoS, routing protocols (such as BGP, IS-IS, OSPF), multicast, switching protocols, DWDM/CWDM
2. Passive optical networking (GPON/XGS-PON etc.)
3. Passive network construction techniques/topology such as fibre optic installation/build, splicing & testing.
4. Excellent stakeholder, crisis and incident management
5. Experience with leading datacomms platforms (Cisco IOS, Juniper JUNOS, Nokia GPON etc.)
A full, clean UK driving licence and the ability to pass a BPSS background check are required for this role.
What you’ll be doing…
You’ll be working hands-on with our network, maintaining, monitoring, and upgrading it to keep everything running smoothly. This involves responding to incidents, restoring service quickly, and working on exciting projects to expand and improve our infrastructure. We are looking for talented engineers who want to work at pace, doing something a little different.
If you have been working in Network Operations already, you’ll know the variety involved in a role like this. Once the cabs are built and live, you could be coordinating the teams to fix things, you could be out in the field, at a customer’s house trying to help understand network issues or doing work at the exchange.
Generally, responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
1. Onsite and remote technical maintenance support of the Ogi Active & Passive Network
2. Lead service restoration during network incidents in your area
3. Provide remote on-call support for Network issues
4. Non-primary area holiday and or sickness cover (East, West and Central)
5. Project support for expansion or ongoing Network Changes
6. Act as technical escalation support for the local Installation Team
You’ll be covering one of our build patches across South Wales build area (either West, Central or East, whichever is local to you) as well as providing guidance on the Network while being the point of escalation for Network-specific issues.
Our engineers play a crucial role in maintaining our networks around the clock with a 24/7/365 shift including out-of-hours, night and holiday work. To give you an idea, you’ll work normal hours in the day (e.g. 8-4:30) and flex around the work as well as cover out of hours on a rotating shift pattern (including Sat/Sun) for support on a Rota – it depends on the work, issues and builds for how this will look though.
