The successful candidate for this Quantum Consultant role will likely come from a Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management background, having gained experience with a contractor, sub-contractor or similar specialist claims and quantum consultancy.
This role would suit ambitious Consultants currently working within quantum disputes, Quantum Senior Consultants, as well as Quantity Surveyors seeking progression within disputes and who can demonstrate significant claims and quantum experience on live projects/contracts.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Assist with the preparation of claims for loss and expense and other contractual entitlements.
2. Assist with the preparation of adjudication documentation.
3. Assist clients, lawyers, and counsel in developing their position where required.
4. Review and assess contemporaneous project records to establish quantum associated with claims and/or disputes.
5. Conduct quantum forensic analysis of tender, contract, and claims documentation.
6. Draft written reports, setting out process, conclusions, and recommendations.
7. Support the drafting of detailed expert witness reports for use in formal dispute resolution proceedings.
8. Critically analyze project and major programme performance, identifying root causes of distress.
9. Provide strategic advice at all stages of the construction lifecycle.
10. Proactively manage cashflow.
11. Contribute to business development and support colleagues with project deliverables.
12. Develop and pursue claims up or down the supply chain.
13. Research and develop emerging industry-related technologies and stay updated on industry developments.
14. Contribute to client meetings.
15. Support and guide junior staff on specific tasks.
16. Interface with clients and other consultants at all project stages.
17. Act as an ambassador, championing the contract services delivered by the consultancy.
Desired Skills and Experience
1. 5+ years of experience within a Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management background, preferably with a major contractor/subcontractor.
2. Experience handling claims arising as a contractor or senior QS.
3. Familiarity with claims and dispute proceedings.
4. Experience in adjudication is desirable but not essential.
5. Good knowledge of contracts such as NEC, JCT, & FIDIC.
6. Knowledge of relevant applications like BCIS, Cost-X, CEMAR.
7. Strong report writing skills with prior evidence of report writing.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
1. Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar.
2. Master’s degree in a relevant construction field, preferably construction law (LLM or similar).
3. Ideally MRICS, MInstCES, or working towards Chartership (not essential).
