The Position
The O&M Specialist Technician (Inverter)is a field-based role performing specialist services on the inverters of battery storage and solar PV plants. You will be part of a team of industry-leading inverter specialists that support our wider O&M team in delivering exceptional plant performance, and alsoprovide on-site inverterintervention for asset owners on plants external to our O&M portfolio.
You will be a qualified electrician with experience maintaining MW-scale power plants, with a keen interest in working on inverters. This is a permanent role and an overtime system is in place.
A company vehicle, smart phone and laptop/tablet will be provided. The ideal candidate would be based in the East or South East of England.
Accountabilities
Reporting to the O&M Specialist Manager (Inverter), you will:
1. Carry out specialist inverter maintenance and upgrade work for clients as an Additional Service
2. Drive the fulfilment of 3rd party inverter response contracts through remote and on-site intervention
3. Provide remote troubleshooting and on-site support to O&M technicians in rectification of faults on the portfolio’s inverters
4. Support the regional O&M teams on-site with corrective and preventive maintenance where require
5. Contribute to the internal knowledge base in relation to inverters, and share knowledge across the wider team
6. Develop method statements in collaboration with the O&M Specialist Manager (Inverter), HSQE Advisor, and Quality Manager
7. Identify any knowledge and training gaps, and put forward relevant training courses to assist the team with upskilling
8. Identify and propose upgrades to the specialist systems (considering obsolescence and reliability)
9. Support the Performance Analysts and SMART team in developing API connections to new sites as required
10. Any other duties, for example with other specialist systems as required by the business needs
Knowledge
11. Good knowledge and understanding of solar PV technology
12. Knowledge of central inverters is essential
13. Principles of High Voltage operations
14. Technical understanding of AC and DC systems within utility-scale solar farms
15. Good knowledge and understanding of SCADA, instrumentation and communications networks is desirable
16. Good knowledge and understanding of HVAC, fire protection, security systems is desirable
17. Good knowledge and understanding of battery storage technology, although training can be given in this area
Experience
18. Experience, reading, writing and amending Risk Assessments and Method Statements
19. Experience working with equipment vendors to support diagnosis of faults
20. DC and LV installation, fault finding, testing and commissioning
21. Experience working remotely
22. Solar PV installation and O&M experience (MW-scale or large commercial ground-mount)
23. Battery storage installation and O&M experience (MW-scale) is desirable
24. Experience installing or maintaining ethernet and fibre optic communications
25. Experience working with SCADA or data monitoring systems
26. Work with Central inverters
27. Work with High Voltage switchgear
