As a Site Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for understanding all of Discovery Education’s portfolio of digital products and the underlying infrastructure that powers them. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the availability, reliability, and security of our cloud-based applications and services. Your knowledge of AWS Cloud, Puppet, Terraform, NewRelic, Honeycomb.io, Splunk, and SRE principles will be crucial in the observability of our applications to ensure reliable support for our business objectives. This role is suitable for recent graduates (0-3 years experience), and the salary reflects this. In This Role You Will Implement and maintain automated monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions to proactively identify and resolve issues in the cloud infrastructure and applications Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather insights into the application's inner workings, business needs, performance, security, and compliance requirements Comprehension of cloud infrastructure on AWS, using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, and Puppet Optimize and monitor AWS resources to ensure high availability and performance of cloud-based applications and services using tools like NewRelic Collaborate with security teams to implement and enforce security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), network security, and data encryption Apply SRE principles to ensure that production systems are reliable, scalable, and maintainable Conduct performance analysis, capacity planning, and system tuning to optimize the performance and scalability of cloud-based applications and services Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and automate deployment, scaling, and monitoring of applications and services Stay up-to-date with the latest AWS services, features, and best practices, and provide recommendations for adopting new technologies to improve the performance, reliability, and security of the cloud infrastructure Participate in on-call rotations and provide timely response and resolution to incidents and outages related to the cloud infrastructure Document and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and runbooks Core Competencies For Success Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams Knowledge of SRE principles and experience applying them to ensure reliable and scalable production systems Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues promptly Familiarity in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as CloudFormation and Terraform, as well as configuration management tools like Puppet Familiarity with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools for CI/CD, such as Jenkins, Git, or Docker Credentials And Experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field Experience with NewRelic, Honeycomb.io, or similar monitoring and observability tools Legal right to work in the United Kingdom This role will sit in our Bath office with a hybrid schedule.
