About the Role:
We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Systems Engineer to join our Defence team in Bristol. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a wide range of high-impact defence projects, including advanced technology systems for military and security applications.
As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, integration, and management of complex defence systems throughout the lifecycle, from concept through to delivery and support. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful delivery of defence projects that enhance national security.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Systems Design and Development: Lead the design, development, and validation of system architecture for defence projects, ensuring requirements are met.
2. Systems Integration: Oversee the integration of hardware, software, and networks to deliver fully operational defence systems.
3. Requirements Management: Capture, analyse, and manage system requirements, ensuring alignment with client needs and project goals.
4. Verification and Validation (V&V): Define and perform testing, simulation, and evaluation processes to ensure system functionality, performance, and safety.
5. Lifecycle Management: Support the full system lifecycle, including system design, testing, commissioning, support, and eventual decommissioning.
6. Technical Documentation: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation including specifications, test plans, and user guides.
7. Risk and Issue Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle.
8. Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with clients, military personnel, and cross-functional teams to understand operational requirements and deliver effective solutions.
9. Compliance and Standards: Ensure all systems comply with relevant military standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
Required Skills and Experience:
1. Experience of industry-standard systems engineering processes, tools and techniques
2. Technical knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle
3. Experience of working in the engineering sector
4. Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-discipline environment to support client needs
5. Effective oral and written communication as well as influencing and stakeholder management skills
6. Must hold, or be eligible for, UK government security clearance
A few desirable skills are:
1. Understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering
2. Professional SE certification from an organisation such as INCOSE, or the desire to work towards it
3. Chartered Engineer status, or the desire to work towards it
Your Security Clearance:
To be successfully appointed to this role, it is a requirement to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance. To obtain SC clearance, the successful applicant must have resided continuously within the United Kingdom for the last 5 years, along with other criteria and requirements.
