The Role We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students in primary and secondary schools who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs. This role involves providing in-class and out-of-class support, helping students develop their emotional regulation, confidence, and engagement with learning. You will work closely with teachers and pastoral teams, using a nurturing and trauma-informed approach to support students who may have experienced adversity or trauma. The ability to build trusting relationships and remain calm under pressure is essential. Main Responsibilities -Support students with SEMH needs in class, small groups, and 1:1 settings. -Help students develop emotional regulation and social skills. -Use positive behaviour management strategies to de-escalate challenging situations. -Encourage students to engage with their learning and build resilience. -Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to deliver targeted interventions. -Provide mentoring, encouragement, and structured support to help students thrive. -Ensure students' safety, well-being, and inclusion in the school environment. Essential Criteria -Experience working with children with SEMH needs, trauma, or challenging behaviour. -Strong communication and relationship-building skills. -Ability to stay calm under pressure and use de-escalation techniques. -Resilient, patient, and empathetic approach. -Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with school staff. Desirable Criteria -Previous experience in a school or alternative provision setting. -Training in Team Teach, trauma-informed practice, or behaviour management strategies. -Experience supporting students with ADHD, Autism, or attachment difficulties.
