We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Design Engineerwho has a qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or similar), related production/manufacturing industry experience and a keen understanding of lean principles and tools, root cause analysis and Six Sigma methodologies.
Working as the Design Engineer you will play a pivotal role in the Production Engineering department and be an integral part of a dynamic team that value teamwork and supports each other towards a common goal.
As the Design Engineer you will be the ‘go to’ person for focusing on enhancing existing products and creating/optimising production tooling designs. Utilising Engineering Software such as Solidworks, ePDM and Epicor ERP System, you will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and implementation sales requests for customer specific customisation.

DUTIES
Your duties as the Design Engineer will include:
1. Stay up to date and collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for product enhancements, cost reductions, and quality improvements
2. Design components suitable for manufacture while optimising for assembly into the product
3. Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including CAD drawings, bills of materials, and engineering change orders
4. Design and optimise new solutions for existing products
5. Design and optimise tooling, jigs, fixtures, and equipment to improve manufacturing processes and product quality
6. Participate in DFMEA & PFMEA activities to proactively identify and mitigate potential design failures and their effects
7. Maintain/create components and assemblies using standard software packages such as Epicor ERP System, SolidWorks, and ePDM
8. Analyse data and performance metrics to drive decision-making and prioritise improvement initiatives
9. Apply Lean methodologies to the design and quality issue processes to eliminate waste, improve efficiency, and enhance product and process quality
10. Investigate and identify root causes of product and process issues, implementing corrective actions within the design to prevent recurrence
11. Collaborate closely with Production Engineering colleagues to ensure designs/solutions are production ready
12. Create and deliver clear and concise presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint to communicate design proposals and project updates

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
13. BSc/BEng (hons) in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) with previous related industrial experience
14. HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) plus previous related industrial experience
15. Level 4 or higher engineering apprenticeship plus relevant Industrial experience
16. A strong methodical virtual/hands-on PDCA mindset
17. A keen understanding of lean principles & tools (8 wastes, kaizen, kanban, FMEA, Poka-Yoke etc.) and root cause analysis (A3, 5 Why’s, Fishbone, Fault Tree Analysis etc.) and Six Sigma methodologies
18. Proficiency in using Epicor ERP System, SolidWorks, and ePDM for design and data management
19. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
20. Understanding of Lean principles and experience applying them in a manufacturing environment
21. Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills
22. Proven ability to perform root cause analysis and implement effective solutions
23. Data-driven mindset with the ability to interpret and analyse technical data
24. Experience in tolerance analysis and DFMEA/PFMEA
25. Excellent communication and presentation skills
26. Self-motivated, able to work independently, and collaborate effectively in a cross functional team
27. Knowledge of food equipment industry-specific regulations and standards (ETL/UL/NSF etc.)
28. Knowledge of sheet metalwork, welding etc.
