An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Community Psychiatric Nurse for Harrow Psychotropic Medication and Physical Health. We are looking for a candidate who is a newly qualified registered mental health nurse to work in the community with adults with mental health needs.
The Harrow Psychotropic Medication and Physical Health team, based in Harrow and Wealdstone, is seeking a passionate Social Worker who is eager to make a difference while working in an environment that promotes staff development and training opportunities. CNWL is dedicated to developing its staff, encouraging them to become more established practitioners.
The Harrow Psychotropic Medication and Physical Health team is at the forefront of mental health transformation in line with the five-year forward plan. To be considered for this post, you will need to be a registered mental health nurse and keen to gain experience working in multi-disciplinary teams caring for adults within the mental health secondary care sector.
Main duties of the job
Band 5 nurses contribute to the provision of safe and reliable services by:
* Using clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep service users safe.
* Safeguarding individuals by recognizing and responding to potential risks of abuse.
* Escalating safety concerns and acting as effective advocates for service users.
* Being open and transparent about their own practice.
* Supervising the work of others.
* Reflecting on practice to identify areas for improvement in safety or quality.
* Collaborating to create a culture of continuous improvement.
* Maintaining compliance with mandatory training requirements.
The NMC plays an important role in safeguarding the public by regulating the work of nurses, and all nurses, including Band 5 nurses, are expected to register with the NMC each year and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.

Job responsibilities
* Providing skilled, evidence-based nursing care in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
* Working with patients and families throughout the care planning process, including assessing risks and needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current Professional Qualification in mental health nursing; registration must be live with a professional body.
* Relevant training such as ENB 812/998/SLICE, mentorship, Psychosocial Interventions, or Thorn Family Therapy.
Experience
* Experience working in a multidisciplinary mental health team with clients experiencing acute/severe and enduring mental health problems.
* Experience working with individuals in mental health crises.
* Experience in audit and research.
* Experience working with individuals who use substances.
Skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and IT skills.
* Skilled in administering antipsychotic depot medication and understanding mental health conditions.
* Able to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care packages.
* Ability to develop intervention and support programs for clients and their families.
* Skills in risk assessment and management.
* Understanding of psychosis and its impact on service users and carers.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance.
* Understanding of the needs of diverse groups and skills in engaging with them.
* Basic counselling and group work skills.
* Leadership skills: ability to motivate others and manage change.
* Experience with dual diagnosis/substance misuse.
