Ocean Physics Researcher
The ocean is critical to life on our planet, and understanding its changes has never been more important. We are seeking a talented postdoctoral physical oceanographer to advance our knowledge of climate-relevant ocean physics in the North Atlantic.
Key Responsibilities:
• Contribute to NERC-funded research programmes using autonomous observational platforms and sophisticated physical analysis to investigate ocean circulation and impacts in the North Atlantic
• Utilize hydrographic mooring, bottom pressure, glider, satellite, and tide gauge data to understand climate-scale ocean circulation and coastal/shelf sea level around the UK and Ireland
• Develop techniques for using drift-free bottom pressure sensors to observe climate-relevant ocean dynamics
Requirements:
• PhD in physical oceanography
• Experience in using traditional and/or autonomous observing methods, data, and computing languages to analyse data
• Participation in oceanographic research cruises and good understanding of ocean boundary dynamics
• Publication record demonstrating expertise in oceanography
• Ability to work effectively at sea
About the Company:
SAMS is a leading institute in climate-scale ocean research, situated on the west coast of Scotland, and is a leader in large-scale monitoring arrays and harnessing autonomous platforms. We offer a wide range of employee benefits and support our staff to achieve their goals.
