We have an exciting opportunity for a confident & compassionate Clinical Nurse Specialist.
The Adult Eating Disorder Team are looking for a motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist with the right skills to complement our multidisciplinary team based in Cambridge.
You will work within our FREED team helping young people to receive quick and early interventions of care. As a new service, there will be lots of opportunities for contributing to the new model of care for eating disorders in the region, along with care co-ordination and delivery of treatment to our mainstream patients.
We will provide supervision, reflective practice, training, and opportunities for professional development. We are passionate about improving standards and service user/carer experiences.
We would love to meet you if you have experience working with young people with eating disorders. If you’re an experienced nurse who hasn’t worked in eating disorders before, you will have many transferable skills to bring to the role, and our experienced team members can support you to grow and develop.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a clinical leader who ensures that the highest standards of evidenced-based nursing care are provided. The post holder will provide inspirational specialist nursing leadership within the team, including specialist assessments, psychological therapies, and nursing interventions to service users, families, and carers.
This post is central to the delivery of clinically based therapy, support, education, and training working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. There will be opportunities to work within our new Community Intensive Support Team, an exciting new pathway to reduce inpatient admissions and length of admissions by supporting service users, families, and carers in the community towards their stabilization/recovery while remaining in their home environment.
Our FREED pathway (First episode Rapid Early intervention for Eating Disorders) is also looking for FREED Champions to provide leadership, assessment, triage, and intervention skills towards this pathway.
CNS’s can also be trained in medical monitoring and phlebotomy skills to contribute to the physical and mental health of our patients to the highest level.
The post holder will develop and embed evidence-based clinical nursing practice within the team.
The CNS is a clinical specialist in adult mental health and is knowledgeable and skilled in working with groups and teams.

1. To ensure that a therapeutic milieu is maintained by supporting the nursing team and the therapeutic structure.
2. To take a lead role in ensuring that a high standard of multi-disciplinary care planning is in place and to be accountable for the nursing contribution to the process. To ensure that the nursing team provide accurate and high-quality patient records.
3. To maintain personal and professional development by providing direct clinical work to individuals and their families with appropriate evidence-based intervention e.g. CBT, DBT, Motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, providing groups and activities in line with the recovery model.
4. To participate in research and audit in the clinical field.
5. To encourage and develop user and carer involvement.
6. To support the Directorate with the investigation process and learning lessons from serious incidents and complaints.
7. To take a lead on clinical matters and policy development relating to nursing practice.
8. To have good awareness of the Pathway and protocols and Trust policies and protocols within nursing and Nursing Strategy.
9. To develop and participate in the delivery of a clinical supervision structure for team members.
10. To take a lead on audits within the team and support the development of non-medical prescribing.
11. The post holder will work collaboratively with all disciplines as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assure a high standard of care for patients/clients and their relatives/carers.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse Mental Health or Registered Nurse
* Qualification in evidence-based psychological therapy relevant to eating disorders
Experience
* Experience of working with adults and/or children
* Post qualifying experience of working with eating disorders
Knowledge & Skills
* Advanced specialist knowledge of Nursing assessment, intervention and practice models relevant to the client group
* Excellent ability to develop good therapeutic relationships
