Job title: Director - Sector & Segment Strategy (12-month FTC)
Location: Bristol, Birmingham, Edinburgh, London
Salary: £95k+ depending on experience
Hours: Full time
Working Pattern: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our above offices.
About this opportunity:
Our Business and Commercial Banking (BCB) division is being transformed through an end-to-end digital transformation, to reinvent how we engage customers, deliver propositions and solutions, and meet their needs across traditional and digital channels.
Within the Digital Banking, Analytics and Propositions division, we have a brilliant opportunity to cover parental leave (12-month FTC) in the Segment Strategy team, within the Customer Propositions & Strategy organisation. Reporting to the Head of Segment Strategy, we need an authority Director to help us build out and deliver on our customer strategy in 2025 across customer segments and industry sectors. Getting this right really matters. Success here will enable us to add more value to customers, and the Group, aligned to our mission of Helping Britain Prosper.
We’re looking for bold, optimistic people with a strong SME and Mid-market experience supporting British businesses or strong cross-functional strategy and commercial growth experience. What you’ll be doing:
* Lean into the development and execution of our segment and sector strategy for Business & Commercial Banking. We’ve laid the groundwork in 2024 and are shifting to execution of the next phase of our strategy.
* Support definition of our macro sector strategy, building on the work we have delivered internally and with McKinsey in 2024 bringing in macro and micro credit and competitive outlooks.
* Ensure the sector structure is socialised and consistently implemented across BCB including how it's communicated externally to the market.
* Specifically, support our increased focus on the industry sectors prioritised for growth as the result of our work in 2024 – developing deep understanding of customer needs, our existing proposition, the value opportunity and our ‘right to win’.
* Prioritise across sector strategies, giving due consideration to dependencies, investment and roadmap for implementation to drive value accretive income growth.
* Collaborate closely with colleagues across the Digital Bank, Analytics and Propositions business segment, our colleagues across Relationship Management, Products, our Chief Operating Office and interlock with the Commercial Bank.

What you’ll need:
* Strong customer focus and awareness of the UK commercial banking market and economic context.
* Proven record of influencing at MD level with impact.
* Experience of defining or delivering customer growth strategy and commercialisation initiatives – this includes market sizing and business case development.
* Issue based problem solving together, we'll bring structure to poorly defined, unstructured problems.
* Structured communication and impactful storytelling: we need to pitch strategic recommendations at the right level, giving decision-makers key messages and stories which resonate.
* Analytical rigour: you’re comfortable with quantitative data analysis and engaging with our partners in Portfolio Analytics & Insight to 'test and learn' our approach to segmentation based on findings from the data.
* Strong commercial awareness, understanding the key drivers of customer and shareholder value.
* A bold / growth mindset crucial alongside ability to deliver with urgency and pace.
