THE CHARITY: Maa Shanti supports South Asian mothers who are impacted by domestic abuse. Our aim is to reduce isolation and increase confidence, knowledge, and skills for our service users. We do this by improving access to activities, education, and employment and through the provision of advocacy and support (both in person and remotely). We run a programme of events, workshops, and activities which includes yoga, mindfulness, cooking, vocabulary groups, arts and crafts, excursions, and children’s activities during school holidays.
THE ROLE: The Director is responsible for the overall running of Maa Shanti. This includes managing and developing staff, developing strategy, operational and contract management, service development, partnership working, safeguarding and child protection, marketing and campaigning, and HR. The Director also has oversight of financing and fundraising, with support from the head of Fundraising and the accountants. Other activities, such as social media, are delegated to staff members with guidance from the Director. The Director is supported by a committed board of trustees and communicates and reports to the board regularly.
KEY DELIVERABLES: Lead and direct Maa Shanti’s growth and development through:
1. Strategic and operational management of the charity’s goals and objectives as in agreement with the Board of Trustees.
2. Supporting staff, volunteers, and clients whilst ensuring that services are accessible, collaborative, and high quality.
3. Ensuring the voices of our clients are heard by shaping the narrative and contributing to policy at Borough and pan-London level.
4. Ensuring effective monitoring, evaluation, and reporting to accurately reflect our clients’ experiences, outcomes, and journeys.
5. Ensuring strong, sound financial management including segregation of duty, budgeting, and monitoring, working alongside accountants.
6. Oversight of successful fundraising via a diverse and varied strategy.
7. Maintaining high standards on delivery in all areas including services, finance, HR, partnerships, policy, marketing, innovation, communications, and governance.
Responsibility for: 4 staff members, 30 volunteers, and over 300 clients, with more than 80 partners in Islington and specialist consultants as agreed with the Board of Trustees.

The successful candidate will be creative, committed, organised, and have a good understanding of the issues facing our service users. They will have experience in leading an NGO/charity, managing staff and volunteers, fundraising, stakeholder and funder management, service development, charity administration, infrastructure and compliance, working with a board of trustees, and working with vulnerable women and children.
