An exciting opportunity has arisen for a HCPC registered Occupational Therapist to work as a Practice Placement Lead within the Therapies Practice Development Team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The post is advertised on a temporary basis, for 0.6 WTE at Band 6 AfC.
Applications are invited from OTs who have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and are able to work autonomously across a variety of different areas. The post holder will have broad clinical knowledge, and experience as a clinical educator, in order to work with clinical teams across Therapies and in partnership with local universities, to ensure excellence in practice learning opportunities. There are also opportunities to work alongside other practice placement leads in providing multi-professional education opportunities for AHP students at NUH.
Main duties of the job
The post holder has the responsibility for the co-ordination of placements for students from a variety of HEIs.
They will work alongside the OT staff at NUH, to ensure the provision of high quality clinical placements.
The post holder supports clinical educators, by providing advice and support to both the students and clinical educators, in order to help students to meet learning objectives.
They contribute to quality assurance by participation in audit and actively seeking feedback from all stakeholders.
Job responsibilities
1. Formal liaison with universities
2. Arrange placements and agree capacity plans in liaison with universities and their requirements
3. Provide and/or supervise local student induction programmes
4. Acting as a highly visible professional as a source of reference for student concerns, assessment and feedback.
5. Monitor effectiveness of tutorial development and delivery of feedback to and from universities
6. Audit of student feedback from resources whilst maintaining student anonymity
7. Address any issues as they arise from those resources with support from the Practice Development Leads and management
8. Ensure all equipment training is completed and signed off, and saved for future reference
9. Assist and support learning experiences for students while on their placement at NUH.
10. Facilitate the development of knowledge, clinical skills and professional attitudes within therapies, and throughout areas that utilise our expertise
11. Supervise, guide and act as a role model
12. Help to orient students to the work environment and assist with any concerns they have.
13. Provide hands-on skills and experience as necessary and appropriate
14. Provide an individual induction rota for each student that includes the areas agreed with their respective university for each specific student cohort.

1. To undertake the measurement and evaluation of own and others current practices through the use of evidence based practice projects, audit, outcome measures and benchmarking.
2. To be professionally responsible, legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work.
3. To ensure and consistently promote a high standard of safe clinical care for all patients.
PROFESSIONAL
1. To provide support, guidance and mentoring to Therapy students within speciality
2. To represent the Trust internally and externally regarding Therapies student placement programme
3. To be responsible for maintaining own competencies to practice through CPD activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development and enables maintenance of HPC registration.
4. Ensure standards of best practice are maintained.
5. Comply with Trust and professional mandatory training requirements
6. To be aware of and comply with the local policies and procedures
MANAGEMENT
1. To maintain an up-to-date electronic information system that captures details of the student placements, and ensure this data is relayed to the appropriate bodies in a timely fashion.
2. To assist with recruitment, selection and retention of students in conjunction with the universities and Therapy Services
3. To ensure Health and Safety of patients and colleagues at all times in line with current Health and Safety legislation. To report and investigate incidents, untoward events and near misses through the incident reporting process.
4. To assist in the investigation of clinical untoward incidents which involve students in the relevant area.
5. To undertake any duties which may be reasonably required
