Over 170 employees and radar experts form the strong team of smartmicro. Most of our staff work at the German headquarters in Braunschweig, while international offices are located in the UK, US, Canada, and China.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within smartmicro UK to join us as an Traffic Engineer, based at our Midlands office in Henley in Arden.
The Role
As a Traffic Engineer, you will play a vital role in installing, commissioning, and supporting the implementation of smartmicro radar sensors and intelligent transport systems across the UK. While this role is not specifically a Traffic Signals Engineer position, prior experience in traffic signals or ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) is highly advantageous and would greatly enhance your ability to succeed in this role.
Responsibilities
* Installing and commissioning smartmicro radar sensors on-site.
* Supporting third-party installers, either remotely or on-site.
* Delivering, implementing, and supporting intelligent transport systems.
* Presenting proposed solutions to clients in a clear and concise manner, both remotely and face-to-face, explaining industry-specific terminology effectively.
* Testing hardware and software for integration into systems, both at our facility and on-site.
* Problem-solving before and during installations.
* Ensuring customer requirements are met during on-site project work, wherever feasible.
* Providing professional pre- and post-sales support to customers.
* Writing and delivering documentation, including application guides and manuals.
* Training clients’ staff on the operation and maintenance of systems.
* Maintaining a high standard of work and adhering to method statements for specific tasks.
* Undertaking any other duties required to support the efficient running of the business.
Essential Requirements
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Previous experience in Traffic Signals/ITS.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
Desirable Skills and Experience
While not essential, the following would be a distinct advantage:
* Experience in ITS, highways, or traffic management systems (e.g., traffic signals).
* Familiarity with engineering software tools and programmes.
* Programming skills.
* A valid ECS/CSCS/HEA card.
* IPAF 1B, 3A, or 3B certification.
* Electrically Qualified to: BS 7671 wiring regulations (17th Edition).
* City & Guilds 2391-52 Inspection & Testing.

Salary
£30,000 - £35,000 per year, depending on experience.
Working Hours
Generally, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday to Thursday, and 8:30 am - 4:00 pm Friday, with some out-of-hours working required. Overtime paid for any hours worked outside of normal working hours.
