Viso Logistics is a rapidly growing UK-focused specialist logistics group, expanding through acquisitions and organic growth. A key business within the group is Jag Express, a trusted specialist partner supporting clients from various sectors with all their logistics and specialist courier requirements. Jag Express services include time-critical, temperature-controlled, and hazardous goods deliveries, clinical trial & medical logistics, as well as freight and import solutions.
About the role:
As we expand our business, we are seeking an experienced commercial leader to drive value and growth by leading a talented team and identifying new commercial opportunities in the healthcare and medical courier services, dangerous/hazardous goods transport, and dry ice shipping sectors. As Commercial Director, you will be dynamic, target-driven, and able to work independently. This role requires someone who leads by example, with the confidence and pragmatism to secure deals. As the most senior customer-facing role in our business, charisma, confidence, and compassion are essential. We are looking for someone who genuinely cares about customers and embodies our ethos of prioritizing customer needs. Crucially, you will bring with you established commercial relationships that can be leveraged to drive tangible value.
Your role will be diverse, requiring a deep understanding of logistics, particularly time-critical same day, next day, or international deliveries. Experience in the scientific/healthcare logistics sector is preferred, but not essential if you can demonstrate transferable skills. You will join a mature and experienced team that values positive challenges and contributions from everyone.
Crucial to the role is your ability to make vital business decisions informed by market and customer insights and trend analysis.
Key responsibilities:
* Drive Sales and Business Development: Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with company goals and objectives to drive growth in healthcare & medical courier services, dangerous/hazardous goods transport, and dry ice shipping.
* Market Research and Analysis: Conduct market research and analysis to create detailed business plans focused on commercial opportunities, including expansion and business development in time-critical same day, next day, or international deliveries.
* Customer Acquisition and Relationship Management: Acquire new customers and manage relationships with both new and existing clients, particularly in the healthcare and hazardous goods sectors.
* Understand Customer Requirements: Understand and meet the requirements of existing customers, ensuring their needs are addressed effectively.
* Team Collaboration and Coordination: Collaborate with and coordinate diverse teams, including Sales and Client Management, to ensure seamless service delivery.
* Build Profitable Partnerships: Build and maintain profitable partnerships with key stakeholders in the healthcare and hazardous goods logistics sectors.
* Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor performance and commercial activities using key metrics, preparing reports for senior management to inform strategic decisions.
* Financial Target Setting and Budgeting: Lead the setting of financial targets, budget development, and monitoring to ensure the profitability of healthcare and hazardous goods logistics services.
* Innovative Solutions and Improvements: Contribute to the company’s ‘good ideas factory’ by bringing innovative solutions and improvements to the table.
About you:
To be truly successful in the role, you’ll possess the following skills and experience:
* Proven track record in a Commercial role at either Director or Head Of level, with a strong focus on business development and a desire to grow into business leadership or Managing Director roles.
* An inspiring, self-driven leader of people, who will also roll up their sleeves when needed, demonstrating a commitment to personal and professional growth.
* Proven and demonstrable experience in Sales, Account Management, and managing relationships with key clients, with a focus on driving business development and strategic growth.
* Established commercial relationships that can be leveraged to drive immediate value.
* Strong experience working in a time-critical courier business is preferable, with an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in the healthcare and hazardous goods logistics sectors.
* Demonstrable understanding of the impact commercial decisions have on multiple business areas, with the ability to address sometimes conflicting priorities and make informed strategic decisions.
* Solid knowledge of performance reporting and financial/budgeting processes, with a keen interest in developing financial acumen and strategic planning skills.
* Commercial awareness partnered with a strategic mindset, with a focus on long-term business growth and leadership development.
* Strong stakeholder management experience, with excellent influencing skills and the ability to build and maintain profitable partnerships.
* Able to shape, communicate, and deliver plans to customers, with a focus on customer satisfaction and business growth.
* Exceptional commercial acumen balancing customer requirements with profit drivers, with a commitment to continuous improvement and leadership development.
* Experienced managing a revenue line of business with accountability for top-line performance, with a focus on achieving business growth and leadership goals.
