Description of what the apprentice will do in their role:
We are excited to be offering an Apprentice Frame Maker role at upholstery company, George Stuart Design.
George Stuart Design is a family-run, established upholstery company - making high quality furniture predominantly for the retail market - in Long Eaton, the UK Centre of Quality Upholstery Manufacture. They are proud to complete all aspects of their upholstery including the manufacture of their own frames, where this vacancy is to become a member of their small frame making team.
You will be completing a Level 2 Furniture Making Operative apprenticeship whilst working in their busy wood mill creating furniture frames for their growing upholstery trade. You will learn all elements of frame making, from processing and cutting timber using a range of machinery, to assembling frames and completing finishing processes.
This is a level 2 course, so your employer and WEBS are not expecting you to have any previous experience in this role, or with tools or machinery equipment.

Comprehensive Training
During your Standard Level 2 Furniture Making Operative apprenticeship programme you will receive training both off and on the job. You will be trained at the employer within the workplace and also at WEBS Training in Nottingham on a day release basis.
You will learn the underpinning knowledge that runs alongside your practical elements of the training.
Training will be provided in all areas of wood machining to ensure you can create practical and bespoke furniture using both traditional and modern techniques and materials to produce aesthetically pleasing and fit for purpose products.
If you have already achieved GCSE maths and English at Grade 4/C or above or have equivalent qualification you will be exempt from undertaking Functional Skills, however English and maths support will be provided for all apprentices throughout the length of their programme.
Career Progression And Opportunities
Following the completion of your apprenticeship you will be a valued member of the frame shop.
There may be opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 course.

Pay
From £12,979.20 per annum
Apprenticeship wage of £6.40 per hour for the first 12 months of the programme, and National Minimum Wage following the first 12 months.
Note: The apprenticeship wage will be increasing to £7.55 per hour in April 2025.
Schedule
Days: Monday to Thursday
Hours: 39 hours a week
06:00 – 16:15, with 30-minute unpaid lunch break plus 2x additional 15 minute paid breaks in the morning and afternoon.
Note – due to Work Time Directive, we are only able to accept applications from those aged 18 and above because of the daily working hours.
