Band 6 - Enhanced Midwife
The postholder will:
1. Work with vulnerable women and families where there are safeguarding concerns providing an enhanced offer.
2. Work alongside services in maternity including the Community Midwifery Teams by following the Enhanced Midwifery pathway.
3. Act as a Case Holder for vulnerable women and infants to improve engagement with maternity services and to provide interventions that meet their individual needs.
4. Work to improve health and safeguarding outcomes with vulnerable women and families.
Main duties of the job
1. Act as patient's advocate in promoting, and delivering the highest standard of care, ensuring all fundamentals of care are addressed, and current, relevant policies and procedures are adhered to.
2. Work collaboratively with partner agencies at all safeguarding levels/ thresholds to support pre-birth assessments and care planning.
3. Communicate and record complex and sensitive information as part of safeguarding responsibilities including distressing and challenging practice issues.
4. Assist in maintaining an effective communication network written, verbal and electronic, informing and escalating to senior staff of safeguarding concerns in individual cases or from emerging themes.
5. Provide advice and guidance and support to any practitioner as requested where there are safeguarding concerns during pregnancy or post-natal period.
6. Manage a defined caseload of vulnerable women and their families offering the Enhanced Midwifery pathway for ante-natal and post-natal interventions based on referral criteria.
7. Support the reduction of health inequalities through assessment, providing interventions and making referrals to appropriate services.
8. Access Safeguarding Supervision to support working with complex families.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential
* Registered Midwife.
* Evidence of ongoing safeguarding training and development.
Desirable
* Post registration study.
Skills and Abilities

* Presentation, training & report writing skills.

* Ability to demonstrate extensive understanding of safeguarding principles.
